aaaaahhhhh i want to compete so badly, but i dont have a camera (yet)! this is starting to frustrate me because i'm better at magic then flourishing and i think i might actually be able to compete. NNNNNOOOOOOOO!!!

Posted by DeadPeopleAllOver on October 07, 2005 at 20:24

I'm looking forward to seeing some magic vids. This should be pretty neat. I wonder how many people will enter.

Posted by expertmagician on October 08, 2005 at 00:27

Is this contest just for magic or for poker/gambling sleights ?

Posted by mcgune on October 09, 2005 at 07:36

Can we perform in fron tof people or does it just have to be a one on one with the camera?

Posted by Twirlmasterflex on October 09, 2005 at 14:39

ohhh a magic contest sounds pretty cool, im looking forward to seeing some of the vids for this one, and yes i am back, i havent posted in ages

Posted by Michael Marino on October 09, 2005 at 19:47

I personally think that there should be a rule saysing that you're only allowed to submit clips infront of a live spectator/audiance. I don't know about you, but I personally find most standalone magic videos (not flourishing videos) without an audiance quite boring actually. I will hopefully be able to submit a vid for this.

I'm sure you can submit either one. However, there's a 90 sec. time limit in this contest. I can't imagine many magic tricks being performed to a live audience in this time limit. Not that standalone magic would be any better. Very Happy

Standalone magic vids can be boring. But I've seen a few good ones. I would've thought that there would be a longer time limit for this contest, because it's not like flourish vids where you can fit tens of flourishes in one video, whereas magic tricks are more time consuming. I guess you could perform a bunch of card sleights one right after the other.

Michael, if your vid is not allowed in the contest I would still like to see it (as would everyone else, I'm sure).

Thanks Dead, I too think the maximum vid length should be extended, however I think I might be able to squeeze in 1 of my favorite effects, Public Transit by Jay Sankey. People FREAK when they see it! Whatever I don't post for the contest, I'll try to get up for people to just watch.

Posted by corey_cj on October 10, 2005 at 17:42

i have an idea, how about we each submit 3 magic tricks in the vids instead of a 90 sec time limit

Posted by marpenothi on October 10, 2005 at 18:35

If there is going to be a time limit, it just has to be longer than 1:30...I feel people will be rushed and the quality would go way down. A much better idea would be like corey said, but only have it be 1 or 2 tricks. 2 seems best, because then contest entrants can focus on those two and not have their decision as to what tricks to do be restricted by time.

Posted by Maverick on October 10, 2005 at 20:37

some people might just want to put a collaboration together of a bunch of color changes as their entry. would that count as more than 3 tricks. i think time limit is more accurate compared to number of tricks

Posted by corey_cj on October 12, 2005 at 21:03

but, really 90 sec?

Posted by Homki890 on October 12, 2005 at 21:07

hmm, tru, it does seem a little short. Its enough probably to get Ambitious Card, or maube even Miser's Dream (if ur quick). Ill talk to Eric about that. Thx for mentioning

Homki890

Posted by marpenothi on October 13, 2005 at 16:00

90 seconds will kill the quality of vids...at least I know for sure I'll be rushed. I think giving people whatever time they need to film one or two routines would definitely work best...

Posted by Michael Marino on October 13, 2005 at 16:27

{Deleted. Please try to aviod personal attacks. Thanks, Shadow.}
EDIT: Sorry about that Shadow. was having a bad day, and said post just really got me P.O.'ed. I'll try to watch it next time.

Now, I'd have to say that so far these seem to be the best rules ot go by:
There should be no set time limit (or something reasonable like 7 or 10 min.)

That a contestant must submit at least one but no more than two magic ROUTINES or (semi) lenghty magical effects.

I think that unless you are doing something like A Dream of Aces or likewise that in most cases having patter would hinder the effect, you must have patter.

And please make all effort to perform for a live audiance.

-Michael

Posted by Homki890 on October 13, 2005 at 19:59

Marino and anyone else having the same concerns,

7-10 Minutes?! This is the internet, not a Magic Film Festival. It would take FOREVER to download, and even if it was reduced and compressed in size, the vid would crappy as hell, no matter what editing or camera you use. 90 seconds is short, i agree, but im saying maybe 2:00-2:30 for a time. You have to remember the bandwidth that the server can withstand. It might not take something higher than 5 Mgs (90 seconds probably). probably a max. 5 min might be what happenes, but 7-10 is "reasonable"? thats a big stretch man.

The one-two routines is good, thats what ppl will probably do anyway.

You and I both know that some of the best effects in magic can be done or ARE done completly silent. I think that would be great, having a magician being completly silent and still amaze ppl. He uses no dialogue for misdirection, etc. Id love that, so patter can be however one wants it to be. If it can be done with XCM, it can be done with Magic.

I like this line, "Make an effort to perform in front of a live audience". Ill admit, it gives a better feel for how the effect has a reaction on the audience, but realize, it is extremely difficult for ppl to get live stuff, even when trying. Would you want to put a live video of 5 min. of bombing? Getting the good stuff is pretty tricky.

Hope this clears anything up for other ppl interested in entering. Deadline is coming up pretty fast, better start getting ur magic in gear people! Laughing

Homki890

Posted by Michael Marino on October 13, 2005 at 23:43

Ok, I agree, 7-10 min. is a bit to long, I'd say 5 would be the best choice now. And you don't have ot upload to 21ace, thats why there is putfile/rapidshare and all that jazz.

It's half october, and I was getting a lil' bit fed up with all this disscusion and everything so I made my vid already. Laughing
It is one and a half routine, wich is slightly (not much) over 90 sec but it was the fastest I could do..
The tricks are (from first to last):
Erdanse Color Change ( S.W. Erdanase )
Snap Change ( Dai Vernon )
Invisible Palm ( Paul Harris )
Biddle Trick ( Oz Pearlman )

*note This video was not cut or edited (except for titels and music).

Have Fun Watching, I might post some random magic on here for funz Very Happy

hey Sreen

Thanks for the entry, I thought i'd write a review.
Any critiscm is pruely contructive (i'm sure you know that)

Erdanse Color Change ( S.W. Erdanase )

I hate to say bad but this was not a good presentation of this trick. The angles were all wrong and infact you exposed it. Your DL was a bit forced as well. I don't know it you know the push off DL if not PM me Its much more decieving and smoother.

Snap Change ( Dai Vernon )

I like this it was much much better than the ernase change. The only point id mentuion is that the close (which is a nice method as it leaves you pretty clean was again forced you spent too much time on it. The change itself was very nice.

Invisible Palm ( Paul Harris )

This was OK. because you went straight into it after the Snap change the single on the table lloked a bit off. The tent vanish was nice. The reveal was good but again it could be smoother.

Biddle Trick

I don't know if its just me but I don't like this trick. Your presentation was good and this was oprobably the best of the bunch.

I'd rather do triumph any day of the week.

Over all sreen, a good video some things need some work. i'm sure your erdnase is better than that but the angles were way off. If there is one thing I think you need to improve on most its your smoothness with the cards. you don't look comfortable with them. the best deception is if you act as tho nothing is happening and then other people won't think it is either.

anyway thanks for the vid. I think I'm definately going to enter this contest.

Jonjo

Posted by DeadPeopleAllOver on October 14, 2005 at 11:24

Hey, Sreen nice video. Way to start things off for this contest, dude. I'm probably an amateur at card magic (at best), so I'll try to offer the best advice as I can.

The only thing I would criticize (constructively, of course Wink ) is your erdnase change. Work on the angles, as this trick is angle-sensitive. There are a few other tips I could give, but it would expose the trick. I might post a performance vid (not tutorial) just to show how it's really supposed to be done. I have seen it performed a few times here recently and people seem to have trouble with it. This is in no way a slap to anybody's face - I'm just trying to help. Cool

Your snap change was good. The "clean-up" after the snap change is actually better than what I've seen from other videos around the internet.

Invisible palm - looked good to me. Cool

Biddle trick - I wasn't very familiar with this trick before your video, but I liked it! Good job.

Nice video, Sreen. You're probably one of the few people who will actually enter this contest. Whenever contests come around, you'll hear people SAY they're entering, but never do. So I'm glad someone did. Maybe this will get the ball rolling a little faster.

Posted by Sreename on October 14, 2005 at 11:27

Thx for your critism Jonjo.
About the triumph I would sure as hell like to do that one too.. one problem. I don't know how to do a triumph Laughing
Maby if I learn it (have to know where first tho) Ill post it. I have alot more better tricks, but these would take up alot of time and I wanted to stay within the 90 sec.
Thats why i'll post soem random magic. So you can see some better tricks of me too Very Happy

EDIT
Srry Dead,
It seemed we replied at the same time, so here is my repy to your post. Glad you liked the biddle. Thx for your comment on my clean-up Smile
Yeah that why I posted the vid, i was feeling magic today and I was fed up of all the talking, it was time for action! I guess not knowing what the prize is yet influence the contestants too, but i dont care for a prize (well its nice to win one, but i just like to show vids aswell Laughing)
Hopefully some others will make movies too now Very Happy

So just to clear the things up.

I have updated the rules so the limit now is 2 minutes.

The only judge now is Maverick and he will chose other judges if he needs them. So if you have some questions ask him.

I want to thank Homki890 for starting the idea of this contest. Sorry for not chosing you as the leader or judge on this one but you were away for a long time and you didn't respond to my pms so we had to choose another leader.

Posted by corey_cj on October 14, 2005 at 18:26

ouch, you really bombed on that first trick there, i might put that in my vid, this will be my first contest entry, so i dont expect to win it, but yeah the rest of the vid was good btw, so keep it up nice job on the invisible palm......GREAT!!!!!!! yes, 2 min. thats more than enough timei need Razz

heres some moves im thinking about

my ambitouis card routine
triumph
invisible deck
mentalism-(guess the top card without looking at it)
do as i do
stripper deck
revolution coin vanish
2 card monte
colour changing aces

im gonna do them all and pick out the best ones to fit the time limit...obviously i cant fit them all in, but those i dont submit, i'll post them in the card tricks section.

good luck to you and everyone else entering! Wink

Posted by Maverick on October 14, 2005 at 21:49

i jus want to make a post to clear up several things so

Please Read!
alright the rules are as Eric has posted, 120 seconds.

First, several people get the impression that your video has to be made up of a routine or more. This is a typical thing to do but there are other ways of presenting your video such as compiling into a video several moves such as, sleights, productions, passes, color changes, etc. This is just to give you an idea. Be creative

Second, Card and coin only, card and coin gimmicks will be permitted, you will not be judged on effect but your skill on how well you have utilized the gimmick

Next, Gambling performance that includes sleight of hand is a valid entry, but be aware this might not be as entertaining as watching a visual vanish or change

Finally, Flourishing maybe used as long as it is incorporated in the routine, if you are enterring a Compilation type video, it would not be smart to put a flourish move(s) into the compilation. You will not be deducted for enterring a flourish move, it just wont be judged if placed into the compilation otherwise the judging for flourishing will be based on how well you incorporated it into the routine

i will also fill you in on how you will be judged soon
any questions plz post in public, some people might have same questions as you

Posted by marpenothi on October 15, 2005 at 07:55

I still think this time limit thing is bs

I'm sorry I can't do an ambitious card routine in 2 minutes...yes maybe I can do all the moves in that time but I can't use any patter or build up like I like to use. Not that I was going to do something as traditional as an ambitious card routine, I am actually thinking of something else, but this time limit crap really sucks. I'm not seeing justification for it...

Marp

Posted by Maverick on October 15, 2005 at 12:53

the time limit was not decided by me but i do support it strongly.
these are some of the main reasons why:
-not everyone is doing a routine as an entry for their video and 2 minutes might already be too much for those people who aren't routining
-screen has already done a 2 minute routine full of 2 routines and more proving it is enough time to do a routine
-i belong to another forum that does magic contests and there have only been 1 out of 5 entries that exceeded 2 minutes and that contestant did not place in the top 3, this shows that the time limit will generally not effect the quality of a routine
-the judge(s) must study very carefully each video, a judge will not get as thorough of a review on a 5 minute video compared to a 2 minute one
-patter is not a main factor of judging because some people might not use a patter in their video
now hypothetically speaking if someone enterred a 15 minute video of his/her routine how would we judge that according to someone who submits a 2 minute video, some type of scaling system would have to be used in order to be fair

if your routine is more than 2 minutes long then mayb you can try shortenning it or simply use another routine that is withing 2 minutes.
if the only routine you have exceeds 2 minutes than i am sorry for the inconvenience we may possibly change th time limit rule

Posted by Homki890 on October 15, 2005 at 17:06

Sreen,
Nice vid man, u top so far! Only thing i can CC is the Erdnase, but why bother since its all been sadi already. good job, i liked it alot.

Shadow,
Thx for that coment. I feel really bad that i wasn't here for like weeks and such. Anything I can help with, give me a buzz, i wanna make up for lost time.

Marp,
If you cnt do Ambitious Card in 2 minutes, then don't do Ambitious Card. That simple my friend, that simple. And please chill down when you reply to me posts. Im trying to be civil. I can stop just as easily.

Thx to all, and I really hope I can enter,
Homki890

Posted by DeadPeopleAllOver on October 15, 2005 at 18:36

It's unfortunate that there's already a dark cloud over this contest. I can kinda see it from both sides, really. Most tricks (or collection of sleights) can be performed in under 2 minutes. However, I kinda see what Marp's saying in that he should be able to submit a video that's longer than 2 minutes if he feels necessary (although if someone submits a 7 minute video, it better be outstanding). If it makes it more difficult to judge, then Marp (or whoever) will be willing to accept that.

You could also look at it as rules are rules, and a good card magician would be able to modify his routine to fit the 2 minute time limit.

During the 6th card flourish contest, I HATED the fact that there was a 90 second time limit. I could've easily fit at least 3 minutes of footage in my video. I tried to get the time limit extended, but was denied. This was fine, and I changed my routine accordingly. Everyone has to abide by the same rules, so it's not like anyone is getting an advantage over anyone else.

Posted by Homki890 on October 15, 2005 at 18:47

Dead,
Wow. That was deep man.
Yeah, your points are what im saying, specially the one about a good magician being able to adjust his routine accordingly to fit the specs. Take Sreen's vid. He left out a couple parts so as to fit it in the time constraints, and yet still gave the good full impact of the final climax. It was as though that was the original wayt it was supposed to be presented.
You should enter Dead; I think ud do awesome. However, i will OWN you! (j/k Laughing Laughing good luck and may the very best triumph)

Homki890

P.S. Personally, Id like to see some original magic, stuff that uv come up with at home. Maybe thats an idea for the next contest, original magic. Wow, im thinking way too far ahead...

Thanks, dude. Cool Only one problem, though. I don't really do card magic. lol So yes, you would definitely wax my ass and then some. I only know a few sleights here and there. I might get back into magic eventually though. But for now, I'll leave that to the 21ace pros. Wink

Also, I don't think I'll be entering future contests. I'm still not sure after the last flourish contest. I'll have to chew on it a little.

Good luck to everyone who enters.

Posted by Homki890 on October 20, 2005 at 20:39

The Glide,
Very nice vid, that snap change was sweet, lot smoother than mine currently is right now Laughing the shapeshifter/chameloen change (whichever u prefer) was very smooth too. one thing, uhh, thats it? U had like a 30 second vid, ur time was really short. just saying, you had a WHOLE lot more time man. very good vid.

Guppiejake,
I've seen this trick at least a hundred times and i still cant figure it out for the life of me! Very nice and slick, i love that trick. One thing, its seemed a bit rushed to me. Like it was wanting to finish too fast. My suggestion would to take your time "messing" up the deck and have some patter. It would make the trick more involved, i guess thats what im trying to say. some CC hopefully for the better, and I really wish I could do this trick! Laughing Very good vid overall. like wow man.

so far, 3 contributions, gosh, if ppl don't start putting stuff, ill have to post my vid. and that means bowworing someone's digi vid camera, and going throug all that trouble, lol. I want to see some magic!

and what u said "slow down the mix up" i used to be really slow on it but people said "common speed it up" so thats wut i did in the video

but im glad u liked it[/i">

Posted by Thuzle on October 20, 2005 at 22:21

I'm seeing alot of fun little peices so far. I liked Sreens Entry despite some flashes. Unfortunately I got lost in the presentation. I think that next time, when you can't speak to the audience and you need them to remember, use an ace, or face card.

For Guppies, I liked renegade. It reminds me of a Off the Table Triumph Routine just looking a bit more fair in that respect. The speed of the piece was fine, but your hands and motions were rushed. If you can do the piece at the same speed without appearing rushed then go for it. Also, It is difficult to maintain misdirection in a video like this. Instead of a straight cut after the replacement I would have opted for a tabled riffle or in the hands riffle to an overhand shuffle then messed the cards.

I made notes on Glides/Sreen Shapeshifter already, so a note on the Snap Change. Good work, I love the speed and distinct manner its done. I do mine Vertical instead of Horizontal, never put the deck down and keep the hands six inches away from each other. The one thing I saw was putting down the deck and touching the cards with the other hand. Thats a no no. You can use the Index Finger for the same purpouse when taking it from the deck.

Posted by guppiejake on October 20, 2005 at 22:44

im glad u liked it, and next time i do it ill slow it down a bit

Posted by Drey on October 21, 2005 at 21:12

Am I missing something? In the initial post the specified time limit was 120 seconds, not 90 seconds, so why does everyone keep talking about a 90 second time limit?

Posted by DeadPeopleAllOver on October 21, 2005 at 22:34

The Glide:

That was probably the best snap change I've seen. But I have to ask... where's the rest of your vid? Laughing That was way too short, dude, which is too bad because those were really nice changes. The double lift you did before the shape shifter was too obvious, but showing the card to the camera while performing the push-over created some misdirection, so most people wouldn't have noticed.

Guppiejake:

I've seen this trick a few times - it's a neat little trick. You performed it well. I have to agree with Thuzle in that I wouldn't have gone with a cut right off the bat either. Other than that you did fine.

Posted by guppiejake on October 21, 2005 at 22:53

People usually wait until the last second to submit their videos - from what I've seen in the past.

Also, some people who say they're submitting a video will eventually shoot you the blank. Very Happy

Posted by Michael Marino on October 28, 2005 at 20:07

OK....PLEASE READ BEFORE WATCHING.

My thoughts on the video:
One: the total video length is about 2:20, including Opening Titles and Credits, I hope that is Alright.
This was never really my best material, Just what I had recorded a few days ago and Just got around to piecing it together. Watch the near future for when I get my own (good) cam.
The dog in the backround is not dead.
I thought That I'd throw in some coin work, seeing as all of the vids so far had been card stuff. Again, this is just two items that would fit the time constraints, NOT my best material.
The damn hole-punch got jammed.
When I lift up the card really high, I am blowing on the ink, I'm not a spaz and that is not neccecary.
Same with when I pause turning it face down.
EDIT: Pointed out below, the lighting wasn'tthe greatest, so watch closely when I move out of frame and you can only see me holding the card. The hole JUMPS from one end of the card, 2 inches up the card to inside the circle on the other side.

So...without further ado.... MY VIDEO

-Michael

Posted by DeadPeopleAllOver on October 28, 2005 at 20:28

Awesome stuff, bro. I don't know a thing about coin magic, but it looked cool to me. Nice job on the card trick too. Here's a tip on how much of an idiot I am... it took me a second to realize that the hole had jumped from the one side of the card to the other. At first I was like "big fuckin' deal". But then I noticed the hole had moved from one side of the card to inside the black circle. Then when I realized what happened, I was amazed. It's an odd sensation to feel amazed and retarded at the same time.

Nice music too. Atreyu kicks incredible ass. Great video.

Posted by Michael Marino on October 28, 2005 at 20:48

Haha, yea sorry Dead, lighting wasnt the best, andI only had 1 take, so..yea. What did you think of the fan catch after the credits?

-Michael

Posted by fattyonadiet on October 28, 2005 at 20:52

i like the vid.... nice work.

i espesially like the end flourish.... very cools.

Posted by DeadPeopleAllOver on October 28, 2005 at 21:21

I missed this flourish the first time. I saw the credits, read them, then closed the video. My bad. Embarassed

It's a nice flourish. I think everyone knows this flourish from Andrei's vids. Here's a tip: keep your "free" hand down at your side. You had your hand braced as if you were gonna mess up. Make it look a little more nonchalant, know what I mean?

Awesome flourish.

Posted by Michael Marino on October 28, 2005 at 21:43

Lol Dead, that hand's action was more of an instinct than a precaution...that was supposed to be a pre-cursor of vids and flourishes to come (read over at the cafe for more info, under the topic double flick)

-Michael

Posted by Maverick on October 28, 2005 at 22:00

the performance together was very close to 2 minutes so it will b acceptable and good job

Posted by guppiejake on October 28, 2005 at 22:53

Wow NICE vid, the flourishe was hgreat and the coin trick had very good slight of hand Smile
much better then my vid Laughing

Posted by marpenothi on October 29, 2005 at 11:03

Ok your goshman pinch and stuff for the 3/4 across from On the Spot was something I was considering doing for my vid... Smile oh well. It was pretty good...problem was I knew what was coming so I was waiting for you to do each thing so my opinion is of course biased. I do believe you need to work a bit on the transfers and such...but nice effect

Keep practicing, not bad. You might want to credit Greg Wilson...I'm pretty sure you got that coins across routine from On the Spot

Marp

Posted by Michael Marino on October 29, 2005 at 11:24

Nope...that's Jay Sankey's Mr. Clean Coins Across.
I learned it from The Very Best of Jay Sankey, which, If I'm not mistaken, came out before On The Spot did Very Happy

-Michael

Posted by Homki890 on October 29, 2005 at 13:40

Yeah, as marp said, u need to work on the transfer or coins. Both times I caught it. sry my man. When Sankey and Wilson did the trick, i couldn't see it, even though i knew how it was done. Ill bet patter could have hid it better.

that card trick rocked balls! that was some slick magic right there! Is that ur invention or someone's that u learned? where can i find it?

Homki890

P.S. YAY, 4 contestants, YES!

Posted by Michael Marino on October 29, 2005 at 15:45

HomiK, the card effect is Public Transit by Sankey. And yes, I know that I need to work on my transfers, this was shot a few days ago and I haven't had time to re-shoot. I whish I had, I can't evn see my own now Razz

-Michael

Posted by marpenothi on October 29, 2005 at 15:45

That'd be Jay Sankeys public transit if I'm not mistaken?

Posted by TheGlide33 on October 29, 2005 at 21:08

You posted at the exact same time lol...Yes he said it was Public Transit

Posted by guppiejake on October 30, 2005 at 13:36

Has there only been 4 videos so far?

Posted by TheGlide33 on October 30, 2005 at 15:09

Yes, that is only 4...deadline is tomorrow

Posted by Homki890 on October 30, 2005 at 20:57

Thank God for BearShare, im downloading the explanation for Sankey's Public Transit as we speak. And no ne give me any lip about getting it off the internet for free. The only ppl allowed to yell at me are ppl who haven't downloaded a single thing of the internet for free. So no one else better give me any of that copyright, its not fair, kinda sh--.

4 Contestants, 1 winner (there is only one prize so far) this aught to be good...

Posted by Drey on October 30, 2005 at 22:52

I wish you would just watch the video and deduce the method from the performance clip, it isn't terribly difficult to figure out and it's a good exercise to help improve your magic.

Posted by Sreename on October 31, 2005 at 01:16

I agree with Drey (and after that you might be able to dowload it to be sure Wink )

Also w00t I'm in the top 4 of video's Laughing

Alright...I was hoping to get some street magic going either before or after our high school's football game on Saturday but my camera ran out of batteries and I forgot to bring the other set of rechargables Rolling Eyes

Shot this as kind of a fall back plan...not was I was hoping to put out but still something I like.

Enjoy

BTW: Its like 10 seconds or so over 2 minutes but I got the stamp of approval from Maverick and he gave it the go-ahead.

hahahaha, comedy gold.

its even funnier because this means sreen may not be in the top 4,

nice video marp, the coin trick was well done, is it done by Sankey? i know he does something like it with 2 coins. i was able to pick the key trick but it was well done anyway.

good luck to all who entered.

Leaving Home , I do that ALOT in real-life situations, gets KILLER reactions. Nice touch with the voices, my cam doesnt have any sound Crying or Very sad so I'm geting a new one. Maveric or whoever runs the next contest, please try to post the criteria BEFORE any entries are submited, it kinda sucks when you post up a vid and THEN you see the criteria and are like "Oh Sh*t, my video has like HALF of that! Evil or Very Mad Wink "

Now that I think about it...unfortunately that kind of does sound like that...but that was clearly not my intention. One of these guys I met on the olden days when Day of Defeat was the best game out used to talk like that...he'd kill me with the really shitty grease gun (if anyone knows what gun that is on DoD) and hed go "Yeh thas righ!!! Marp:

I wasn't crazy about the first routine, only because there are any number of explanations from laymen that could be offered as to how the trick was done, know what I mean? The patter seemed to be one of those "had to be there" inside jokes, so it kinda went over my head as far as the humor.

The coin routine was awesome. I don't really have anything more to say other than that. Very Happy Sorry, I don't know much about coin magic. So I can't offer any suggestions, nor do I have any complaints. Sweet job, dude.

Sleepwalkers: I sincerely hope that the "what's that round yo neck, boy" comment being compared to a slavemaster was just a joke. Otherwise, your analogy is just stupid.

Ehh..Dead that was my attempt at being creative and humorous Confused Yeah, as I said I definitely need to practice that more and that would decrease the suspicion on the part of the spectators...but if this would have been face to face I'd make the trick more in your face and such

I should've clarified a little better. I really did like the trick, I just thought it would've been better if it was more up-close. Very Happy

Does MJM Magic sell Ghosst Decks or Black Tigers because I couldn't seem to find them for sale on the site. I'm looking towards buying something from there, regardless if I don't win the contest.

Posted by marpenothi on November 02, 2005 at 17:29

Yeah, see I hadn't even heard of the site until the promotion here for this contest.

I really like color fusion and am strongly considering picking that up.

On MJM I found the trick I did in my contest vid if anyone is interested: http://www.mjmmagic.com/pages-productinfo/category-11/product-449/accessories-special-order-copper-silver-brass-w-mexican-coin.html
It's very very similar...probably the exact same concept except I believe that has a slightly different chinese coin

Sry Glide, I couldn't find the Black Tigers or related cards in that category...I'm not positive they ever carried them in the first place but they might have. I really do like the card selection and prices at the site...my favorite cards being
Bicycle-cards-from-vincenzo-di-fatta.html" target="_blank">http://www.mjmmagic.com/pages-productinfo/category-11/product-1288/accessories-green-backed-Bicycle-cards-from-vincenzo-di-fatta.html
They also have lots of reverse printed cards, low vision bikes, texan 45, inexpensive Tally hos, and more...

Sorry if I sound like an advertiser, but I'm just really pleased with this new site Very Happy Very Happy

I'm sure when you ask me if I wanna "fight about it", you mean verbally. In which case, no, I already made my point that the analogy was dumb. There's nothing you could say that would lead me to believe that your accusation you made about Marp was intellegently thought out. To back this up, you can refer to what Marp said about your analogy being totally inaccurate.

Now if you meant to fight me physically, well that's just dumber than the analogy itself.

You can PM me with any other beefs, as this thread does not need to turn into a conversation about slavery.

Rofl...you're pretty stupid. Do you see my join date? I've been here for over a year, I like marp and his vids, they're cool. You're makin a fuckin thesis on a joke...unbelievable.

You want reasoning for it? It was a joke. He said "Boy" with a southern accent, a (what used to be) derogatory term against *GASP* BLACK PEOPLE. AND BLACK PEOPLE WERE SLAVES, WHERE WOULD I GET THESE IDEAS!

Anyways, thread should get back on topic.

There are aspiring magicians out there looking for easy magic card tricks but some of the ones in the search engines aren't that cool. One of the main ones that comes up goes something like the following:

The spectator is shown six cards that all look similar:
9 of spades card
7 of diamonds card
8 of clubs card
7 of spades card
8 of diamonds card
9 of hearts card

The spectator is told to focus on one card and memorize it.
Next the spectator is shown 5 cards
and told that the one they memorized
has been left out.

Here are the five cards that are displayed:
7 of clubs card
9 of diamonds card
8 of spades card
9 of clubs card
7 of hearts card

Obviously it doesn't matter what card the spectator memorized, none of the six cards are inlcuded in the secondary five card list.

We feel that folks looking for free magic card tricks deserve more than this. Here at 21ace we have a Card Tricks Forum where you can learn tons of free card tricks as well as some great card flourishes.

If you're looking for free Magic Card Videos we have those too. We also have some great Magic Contest Videos.

Good luck learning these tricks, don't be shy about asking questions in our forums but remember, don't ask for exposure!
