    Mike Massey Interview

Click Here to add your thoughts to the topic below:

Posted by Eric on January 16, 2007 at 17:30

Mike Massey needs no introduction. He is the most famous trick shot artist in the world. Thankfully Mike took some time from his busy schedule to answer some questions.

    1. What is your favorite trick shot?

    Mike Massey wrote:
The boot shot. Ever since making it on ESPN about 4 years ago people seem to love it. I like the bottle shots, stroke shots, masse shots.

    2. Who is your toughest opponent? (When Mike mentioned Eric Yow I told Mike about these Eric Yow forums here and I could tell Mike is very impressed by the play of Yow.)

    Mike Massey wrote:
Many are up there. Tom Rossman, Stefano Pelinga, Andy Segal is playing well now, Nick Nikolaidis, Bruce Barthelette has come a long way, he's playing good now. Charlie Darling won the championships one year. Luke Szywala from Poland won it one year also. There's a bunch of 10 players right now. Eric Yow did great in this last tournament, he is someone to look out for. [In 2006"> Tom Rossman beat me in the WPBA by one shot. I beat him in the trick shot magic [in 2006">.

    3. What is your most memorable championship?

    Mike Massey wrote:
The one in Ukraine as far as the artistic championships go. I had to dig down deep to win it by one point over Stefano Pelinga. In Trick Shot Magic the last one from last year because I had to dig deep (wasn't feeling well energy-wise).

    4. Besides yourself, who do you enjoy watching?

    Mike Massey wrote:
Tom Rossman does a nice show. Sebastian Guimelli from Argentina is really exciting. He gets really energetic. We just had the Legends of Trick Shots a few weeks ago in the Ukraine. There were only 7 players and just 30 shots. It was like extreme pool. I won that over Nick Nikolaidis and it was really close. That was a neat event.

    5. Who gave you the Tennessee Tarzan nickname?

    Mike Massey wrote:
That was years ago when I used to hustle. I had long hair and looked like a young Johnny Weissmuller. I was always good at arm wrestling. I'll be 60 in April so that was almost 40 years ago. I'm writing another book now that will be called from the Hall of Shame to the Hall of Fame, it will have hustling.

    6. Favorite pool hall? Favorite restaurant, favorite meal, favorite song, favorite movie, anything else you want to share with us?

    Mike Massey wrote:
Movie - The Ten Commandments and the first Rocky movie. I was involved with Johnny Cash in The Baron and The Kid...it had a good moral story.
Songs - I write songs myself inspired by My Lord and Savior. Hometown Hobos is a song close to my heart. He's in tune with God.
Restaurants - I don't know of any food I don't like. I've been to 38 countries and all 50 states. The Crackel Barrels are good...there are 500 of them. Nobu is a good Japanese restaurant...I like sushi. I've eaten in China. I like Afghanistan food. I like Indian food. Lentil beans, steak.

I asked Mike if we could do another interview once I finish his Mike Massey's World of Trick Shots book and he said that would be fine. Mike mentioned that the Poologrophy and the Dedication sections of the book are good.

We thank Mike Massey for taking time from his busy schedule to answer these questions!

Posted by yow on February 02, 2007 at 01:14

He doesn't hustle, and hasn't for decades.

It's pretty stinkin awesome that Mike Massey said "watch out" for Eric Yow!!!!! How cool is that!

    -yow!
