8th Chip Trick Contest Video by Rich
    by Eric @ 12, Oct 2006

    Video Rating(1=worst, 5=best): 5/5

This video is amazing. Rich makes the 2-handed butterfly variations look easy...do not be discouraged when trying these same routines on your own. Excellent video...I can see why Rich is so successful with his DVDs.

We Thank Rich for joining us in this contest!

eric and the gang, I see on most vids they pop up with a description, list of tricks, rating, your thoughts, etc... and this (mine) video pops up in a new window... any thoughts...? thanks, r

Posted by ucpoker on October 03, 2006 at 21:13

Oh, one more thing... Eman pointed me to the VLC player to watch vids in many formats... works Great!... Our vid we sent in was a mp4 and should work with the newer quicktime, itunes, or with VLC... hmmm, hope 21ACE gets them all in a format so we can see the ratings, their reviews, etc.. Cool deal guys, can't wait to see some messages about the 8th Chip Tricks Vids! r

Posted by Eric on October 04, 2006 at 03:14

Is there anyone out there who can convert Rich's mp4 file into a mpg or avi file for us? Once we have it in one of those formats we can put it in the video matrix like the others.

    Thanks.

Posted by Chipmaster on October 04, 2006 at 08:07

    I converted it to avi
How do I get it to you....

Posted by ucpoker on October 04, 2006 at 10:50

I converted it also to AVI as high quality as I could from quicktime and it looks not even close to the quality of the mp4 and twice the file size!... I hope you avi works as good... my file size ended up to be 25mb.... from a high quality looking 10mb mp4... just FYI.... Thanks chipmaster for taking the time to do that... Hope you enjoy my vid.... the opening trick is tight... butterfly, to an instant balance trick to a roll up and restanck into the palm! Wink Dont blink or youll miss it! r

Posted by ucpoker on October 04, 2006 at 11:07

Hey guys (and girls) Wink It looks like an avi version of my video will make it in to the 21ace guys soon...I am on a mac and must have not sent in an appropriate file type... (mp4 and should play if you have a player for it... just CANT vote and see any noted from eric:(Sad cuz it was not in the video matrix yet.. ) if you haven't seen my vid and couldnt vote on it yet, try to get the "VLC" player (super sweet! and plays anything) and check my vid out on a larger window than the 21ace viewer cuz youll miss some nice eye candy...(and come back and give it some points when you can!) for instance, the opening tricks is very tight(the chip rolldowns are super fast, then the chips are balanced flat on the finger tips, then rolled back up and then bounced into a tight stack again at my finger tips all in a second or two... so dont blink;) ) ... and I do not think little moves could be noticed at all on the 2.5 inch window on the video matrix only because my stuff was shot with steadicam including more of my body, etc... Next time, Ill have to do very tight closeups of just hands.. but many of my tricks I included where larger table stunts and in air stuff... Oh, well, I hope someone picks up an idea or two! (as I see that my highly published snakes and extra chips between hands type stuff was done by many this time! Rock'n'roll!!!) If any one has questions about my tricks on my vid or couldnt make out what was happening, pm me anytime... Cheers!! r

Posted by Eric on October 04, 2006 at 16:44

Chipmaster, Thanks for converting to avi, I sent you a pm about how to get it to me.

    Thanks Again,
    Eric

very nice video Rich. some pretty cool moves there.

Posted by ucpoker on October 04, 2006 at 19:59

Rockin!, thanks Eman.. just sent a message to you too!... Hey, I am not sure what player or video size you saw it on... but I hope you and others see what the heck is going on... like the opening where I do an "against gravity" butterfly opening, then a balance of all the chips on finger-tips, then a roll up to a nice stack stack after they are bounced into a stack from the palm... It happens fast and I couldnt even really make it out when watching it on a small window. Sad and the details of a chip that ricochets off the tops of my chips just cant be seen when playing small. I hope there was something that sparked an idea for you in there. I really had to use some excisting footage and should maybe not put anything in there that is "common" like chip bounce as my butterfly and chip spinning stuff is so feraking fun. Thanks for checking it out and thanks for the kind words... cheers. r

Chipmaster was nice enough to make an avi of Rich's video here: http://home.comcast.net/~lordhutt/21ace/RichFergusonCT.AVI

I can't get it to play in Windows Media Player nor RealPlayer though.

If someone can help us get this into an avi or mpg that doesn't require extra plug-ins it would be a big help. Obviously we want to get this video into the video matrix section very soon so that people can give it numeric ratings.

    Thanks,
    Eric

    I sent you PM, Eric.

I had no trouble playing this with Windows Media Player 9.0

However I reccommend getting a far better program like MPlayer

    http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=82303&package_id=84358

This is a much better program and it's free...plays pretty much anything for me.

Posted by Eric on October 05, 2006 at 01:13

The thing about the video matrix is that it uses the media player object below. In order for it to work correctly the files need to be in generic formats (.mpg, .avi etc) and they shouldn't require plug-ins. Not sure how this object is impacted(if at all) if users upgrade to the newest Windows Media Player.

Here is the code for the object that is used:

    Code:
    <OBJECT ID="MediaPlayer" WIDTH="600" HEIGHT="470" CLASSID="CLSID:22D6F312-B0F6-11D0-94AB-0080C74C7E95"
<!-- ADD 46 PIXELS TO HEIGHT FOR CONTROLS -->

By the way Rich, I like your springing cards avatar.

Nice video, Rich. Some interesting moves in there that we don't see a whole lot of. The only complaint I have is it would've been better if you shot some new footage for this contest, as that's what everyone else usually does when they enter contests. Your submission was just bits and pieces from your DVD (Old footage) - unless I'm mistaken. Very Happy

I agree that your muscle pass is very good.

Posted by ucpoker on October 05, 2006 at 10:48

yes, from the endless footage that has and hasnt been seen but also from stuff Im recently working on... but when I said I wish I had the ability to shoot all new stuff... I mean even for me to come up with all new moves that were new to me too, etc... there are many things not ever shown in my promo stuff for the dvds, like the advanced patterns with the butterfly or rolldowns, but thanks! for the kind words. If I didnt have some nicely filmed stuff showing some sick butterfly stuff, etc I would have had to figure out another plan. I have access to a steadicam operator from time to time... so wanted to definitely use some floating looking shots... while I have them. I think everyone did many moves they have been doing or a while.... I guess that is WHY we can pull them off! Wink I just hope that with the filming being back a little to include more of my body that people can appreciated the finger work on popping chips out to spin, etc. Could you imagine if there was a budget to have a boom and have a hollywood level filmer zoom in while moves are being executed! That would be hot. Fun stuff!

Posted by ucpoker on October 05, 2006 at 11:25

Oh, sorry...to clarify... This entry 21ace has is the First time anyone has seen some of those more complex moves that are on the New Chip Tricks DVD that just was officially release this month... so, much more current than the stuff from the original DVD from last year... So, I see what you are saying, but I covered both ends, so to speak. Smile in 89 seconds, you got to pick some variety though... I hold the unnofficial chip roll of 51 rolls on both hands (official record if not broken by a few contests rolling by the Guiness currently) and I wanted to show some random rolling abilities (nothing too stupid fast as it doesnt even look pretty anymore!) and maybe it bored some folks cuz it wasnt a "new" trick, but hopefully people are excited to see some variations... for instance, look really close at the rolldown toward the beginning of the vid and see how freakin fast it is... I know that people have seen the rolldown by many other people and it is not a "new" move, but I really thought how dang fast and effortless would be a mind blower. But you are correct, there is indeed some material that I have been able to master for some time. I really think there is something to be said for tricks that many people can do and showing those tricks with masterful level means something too... It would be like running the mile in 3 minutes... Sure, everyone has seen running before... that is still a goal and pretty impressive. But something New is exciting but where does it leave a comparison? I tried to show that I am the best (well to be decided) at things like instant butterflies, etc. and I did throw in some very subtle mods to tweak some non-believers... like opening the butterfly with my hand face down, etc... Guess there are really two ways to approach an entry... Good points though. I totally see that you are thinking. An entry with the goal of being the best at things we all try to do or an entry with things we do not even know... One is trying to show known skill over others, one is showing originality over others... There are both covered in my vid and others too... mine are subtle and are not the entire visualness of the entire trick and are less obvious as they are part of a bigger thing. I think maybe there might be too much expectation from people like me and eman... Like there might be video submissions from one of us with two dozen entirely fresh new tricks Nobody has ever seen or imagined. Hehe! I will try to go in a more unorthodoxed trick realm with all unusual tricks if I find the time to quickly master many new moves... unlikely, but that would indeed be a blast! Sort of wordy, but hope that helps. (and all meant in conversation and clarity and No offense taken!! You rock!) Cheers!

Wow....someone seems to really like to talk about himself Rolling Eyes

    Hi Rich,
First of all thanks for the messages and the "big hand"...
Your video was amazing. It is especially wonderful when you make the chip appear. I looked at it twice but I still can't get it! Same thing when you manage to put all the chips in the top on your fingers... The 8-chip butterfly is perfect too. So big big hand for you too!

PS: I can only speak French (when nobody is here to translate for me, as it is the case right now!!) that why I can't write more on the forum...
PS2: New videos are on my blog with these tricks and some new others I invented which might be interesting... Nice view.

Great video rich. Got your dvd's a couple of months ago and they are really high quality and great in teaching not only chip/card tricks but some tricks you dont normally see performed at poker tables like the muscle pass and the boomerang. Keep up the good work, by the way your vertical chip roll and roll down are absolutley awesome, easily the smoothest tricks ive ever seen.

Posted by pokerfx on April 23, 2007 at 12:05

Rock'in Roll!@ Very glad you found some good tools in that collection! It was a real treat to produce those DVDs. Thanks for the comments! Continued success to you! R
