Dan and Dave Buck - The System

[ Review by deathorglory August 2005 ]

Dan and Dave Buck - The System Speed

All the flourishes are taught using slow motion, which creates problems because you will have to watch explanations over and over again before you start to understand how the cuts work.

Speed 3 stars

Dan and Dave Buck - The System Communication Quality

Frankly, there is no communication, no speaking and no text, all you have is the cut being performed over and over again.

Communication 2.5 stars

Dan and Dave Buck - The System Appearance

The appearance is quite good, the performer is against a solid white background, so you can see the cards and what they are doing very well.

Appearance 5 stars

Dan and Dave Buck - The System Difficulty of Tricks Taught

Some cuts are definitely going to take some work to get really smooth and fast, but overall, not that difficult, most can be done at a reasonable speed in about a week with daily practice. This is still only for an intermediate with a bit of knowledge about cuts.

Difficulty 4 stars

Dan and Dave Buck - The System Teaching Quality

The dvd's major low point. As mentioned earlier, There is no talking, and no text to go by, all the cuts are taught from a front and above (not over the shoulder) angle using normal speed and slow motion. You will have to watch the explanations many times. Fortunately, the explanations for each cut are looped so you won't really have to use the remote much.

Teaching 2 stars

Dan and Dave Buck - The System Quantity

There are 18 flourishes, plus if you buy it directly from dan and dave, you get access to the System Vault, where there are many more flourishes that you can learn.

Quantity 5 stars

Dan and Dave Buck - The System Price

It is $35, which is about average for a magic related dvd, and a really good price for the quantity of stuff you get.
