Las Vegas General Information
Located in Nevada less than 50 miles from the California border, Las Vegas attracts a lot of visitors from Southern California. Gambling is not legal in the state of California but in Nevada it thrives. The Vegas Strip has been built up quite a bit the last 20 years. The part of the Strip near the airport is home to a lot of new hotels and casinos that were not in place 20 years ago. Some of the new casinos are the MGM Grand, New York New York, Ex Calibur and the Luxor. Vegas has some of the finest casinos in the world and people travel from all over the planet to see this famous city.

Hoover Dam and Lake Mead are very close to Las Vegas. Lake Mead exists because Hoover Dam was put in place to dam the Colorado River. Hoover Dam provides electricity to Southern California and other areas. Lake Mead is an excellent spot for jet skiing, wave running and other water activities.

The Grand Canyon in Arizona is up the Colorado River from Lake Mead. Some of the Grand Canyon River Rafting trips end up in the northern parts of Lake Mead.

François Badeau had the idea for a monorail in Orange County in 1989. The monorail did not get put in place in Orange County but things were different in Las Vegas.

Las Vegas Pictures, Photos and Posters

The World Series of Poker is held every year in Las Vegas. Having been to Vegas many times, I've taken lots of pictures and posted some of them here on the site. There are also many posters of Las Vegas available through this site. Las Vegas looks best at night when all the flashy lights look the brightest. Many Las Vegas casinos like Ceasar's Palace look completely different at night.
