2 questions on Masse shots. |
|
I've recently started taking the game of pool more seriously, and would one day like to be able to play with the pro's. Still have a lot of work to do though. Anyway, my questions.
1. I have attempted the hustler masse shot, and other masse shots, that require the cueball to come almost straight back. Can't seem to get it to do it. CB goes out, and then comes to a stop on most attempts, sometimes, it comes back an inch or two, or so slow it won't pocket the second ball. How can I get the kind of action that causes it to come back strong enough to pocket the second ball or accomplish a shot like the rocket shot?
2. I have only recently started learning and practicing the masse and jump shots. I have been able to accomplish the rainbow masses, and the kick masse shots (albeit not nearly as proficient as you guys), but why is the kick masse rated with a DOD of 9 in the APST? it seems easy enough to me.
Looking forward to your input.

The masse shot is one of the hardest to control and master. You can find a section called "masse instruction" on eric yow's site. I suggest u read that carefully. If the cb just stops means that there is not enough spin. Try elevating your cue more. Also try to follow through the cb more (all the way to the table bed) and clean your cb.

Degree of difficulty...it is what it is because of the consistency factor. As for the kick masse, it's not the most difficult to hit, but to hit it consistently is a different story. For the hustler masse, use more elevation and don't have the white come up quite so far. If you're going out 2 diamonds up with the white and hoping it will come back precisely, you're going too far. Try having the cue ball come up JUST barely past the second ball before returning. This means 85 degrees of elevation! But, you'll get more spin and there's less room for error. Think it over.

Thank you very much. On the Hustler shot, I have been going about 1.5-2 diamonds out, and roughly at 70-75 degree elevation hitting the cb at 530 (I shoot lefty) with a medium soft stroke. I'll try elevating a little more to 85, and try a softer stroke to see if that helps. Thanks so much guys.
Oh, btw. Yow, have you taken your bar exam yet? I wish you well on that. When you get the chance, be sure to take a tripe on the Clarksville Queen while you're there. Speaking of which, how has Clarksville recovered from the Class 1 Tornado that ripped up the historic district in 1999. I haven't been able to get back there yet to see it. I hope they were able to rebuild the old Church by the Police Station. That was a beautiul building. Well, enough for now. Sorry if I ever get to chatty guys. My closest friends tease me about being talkative.
Anyway, best wishes to you, and hope to see you competeing again sometime.
