2nd Magic Contest |
|
Judges(subject to change): fattyonadiet, Sreename
DEADLINE July 31, 2006 Midnight Pacific Standard Time
1) One person - one video
2) The video can't be longer than 120 sec (+ titles) and the must be less than 5MBs (there is no size limit if you host the video yourself but the time limit is the same).
3) NO EXPOSURE
4) By submitting videos you are giving 21Ace.com permission to include them on the site(with credits of course). We will probably only put the best videos up on the site. By submitting documentation in the email, you are giving 21Ace.com permission to include it on the site.
5) All videos must be submitted through the forum (either as uploaded attachment or as a post with the link to the hosted video).
6) Please no "Don't try this at home" tricks. Do not film anything that is dangerous. For example, videos involving fire are not allowed.
Prizes(Subject to Change):
$25 gift certificate from MJM Magic
New 21ace T-shirt
Note that sending documentation in the forum thread with the video is optional but highly encouraged. NO EXPOSURE DOCUMENTATION PLEASE. It is very useful to include the names of the tricks used in the video. Don't reveal the secrets unless they are entirely your own and you don't mind sharing. Writing about how long the tricks took to learn is optional. Flourishing may be incorporated in the video as long as it is coherent to the routine.
Everyone is encouraged to send in a video, even if you're not sure how good the quality is. Remember that other people might find your video extremely helpful even if you're not crazy about it.
Good luck to all!

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!
OMG I have been waiting for this forever!!!!! Holy crap I can't believe it wooooooooooohoooooooooooooooo!!! I think I know what I'm gonna do for my video, but I'm gonna wait and see what goes down first.
So does the 120 seconds include the titles? Or can we have say 119 seconds of magic and 30 seconds of credits or whatnot? I think I know what you're saying but I just want to make sure.

                    (WHOOT)

@ Ace:
You can have 120 sec of magic and like 15 (or whatever) sec for your titles. So the 120 sec is pure a limit for the showing of magic.

*cracks knuckles* Well, lets get this started.
I do have one question though. Does the material in the video have to be Original, or can it be any trick that we learned, and give credit?
On a similar path, What are the magical realms to be dipped into? Cards, Coins, Impromptu, Table, Silk, Rope, Money? Name it, And I will perform.

You can do all kinds of magic, and sure you can use tricks created by others, just be sure to not expose the trick in text or tuterial vid and give credits at the end. Then it will be all fine

So much for my Restless Lady Routine. Can't fit it under 2 minutes without it looking very rushed
Oh well, I guess I'll have to go with plan B. Or maybe C....We'll see.
BTW is there a scoring system? Like, does patter get you extra points or in front of a live audience or originallity and things like that?

Well probably you are gonna be judged on how you perform, so that means the smoothness, cleverness of the trick(s), wheter it is a nice style and more of such classes, but I dont think theere will be a actual point sstem for diffrent subjects, doe your best and own it!

i think there should be a points system.... or at least use one as a rough guide.
i'm thinking:
creativity:
originality:
difficulty of trick(s):
(if multiple tricks are performed) how well they flow together:
smoothness and overall performance:
i think these will/should be the main areas taken into consideration.

Fatty:
When I was judging the card and chip flourish contests I too thought there should've been a points system. But Shadow made a good point in saying that what's difficult to one person might be very easy to someone else. This can also be true with creativity points, smoothness, etc. So we decided that we wouldn't use a points system. We kinda judged the videos as a whole. Plus, not all point systems are accurate. You might give the nod to a video using the points system only to think: "Well, was that REALLY the best video?".
Usually if the judges just all get together and share their thoughts, it goes fairly smoothly.

i totally understand what you mean and i agree, but i also think the competitors need something to go by, they need guidance in their video making... thus i think a points system should be used.
the points system doesn't need to be the be-all and end-all, just a helping hand.

I hear ya.
One thing that I did when the contest was over, I posted my thoughts on each video. That way, there wasn't any confusion as to how I made my decision.
But a point system isn't a bad idea either. You could probably do it either way.

5) All videos must be submitted through the forum (either as uploaded attachment or as a post with the link to the hosted video). |
i think shadow wants ppl to just upload them onto this thread. but i would suggest PMing it to shadow or emailing it to vids@21ace.com bcoz otherwise ppl may steal your ideas.

Gah, make the deadline right when I have no time to make a video. Oh well, I guess I'll let someone else take this one, I'll judge if a judge is needed though.

Eh, I suppose I could, but it would be a crappy, no-spectator last minute thing with no editing like last time. I swore to myself I would never do that again. Plus, I'm recovering from massive sunburn, making it hard to move at all. Oh well.

Whoot whoot I finally finished my vid. It's not exactly what I wanted, but I spent too much time on it to just make a new one. I'll send it to vids@21ace.com like the 30th I guess. Hopefully my computer does not aquire a virus within that time frame. Can't wait to see everyone else's entries!
