9th Card Contest |
|
Card Flourish Contest rules/conditions(subject to change):
DEADLINE 10th December 2006, Midnight Pacific Standard Time
Judges: Fattyonadiet, Shadow
Read the rules carefully!
1) One person - one video
2) The actual performance in the video can't be longer than 90 sec and the size limit is 20 Mb. The credits can exceed the time limit.
3) No glued cards
4) By submitting videos you are giving 21Ace.com permission to include them on the site(with credits of course). We will probably only put the best videos up on the site. By submitting documentation in the email, you are giving 21Ace.com permission to include it on the site.
5) You have to upload the videos here: http://www.21ace.com/video-pictures/thumbnails.php?album=2. The videos can be uploaded on the last day of the contest (if you can't upload them on the last day you can send them to the judges earlier (for instance by sending them to vids{at}21ace.com – send a pm to Shadow when you use this email for sending your videos). The size limit is 20mb. No other methods of sending the videos (e.g. linking somewhere else like youtube) will be accepted.
Prizes(Subject to Change):
1 brick (= 12 decks) of Bicycle cards
1 white 21ace t-shirt (http://www.cafepress.com/21ace)
1 black 21ace t-shirt (https://www.spreadshirt.com/shop.php?sid=35556)
1 set of 3 poker chips keychains (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260051662405)

I once was strongly against the 90 sec rule. But now I'm ok with it. It forces people to decided what moves to put in/leave out - which means it can be challenging for the more experienced people who know lots of moves.
Everyone competes under the same conditions, so it's fair no matter what the time limit is.

if you whanna put in all cool moves 90 sec is no way near enough. but i guess that concernes chip tricks for me.
i could do an card vid but it would be like 20 sec long lol
but as you said its the same for all who enters =)

dont forget you can add a plot to the video and make it longer, the flourishing part needs to be 90 seconds, i believe thats the rule

I think that 10mb rule is a bad idea...all that is going to do is kill the video quality of the vids. Maybe its so you can upload them onto the 21ace server and such, but I honestly don't think having that capability is worth sacrificing the picture quality.
I'm also opposed to the 90 second rule, but like Dead said, it will stop people from putting every card move they know in their vids. "Actual performance is limited to 90 seconds"...so Mav was right about that.

10MB 90sec |
|
I second that, maybe next time have it longer, cuz I had a bunch of tricks and flourishes planned out, and i now have to get rid of a bunch...

I think that the time limit should stay. There are a few good reasons for it. I know that you would like to put as much as possible to your video but the others would do it to. And the result would be many videos with almost the same moves. So you have 90 seconds to show only the best things you can do and not trying to fill the space with moves you can do as well as the others. If you can fill your 90 seconds with your original moves that will impress you will win.
We are rising the size limit to 20 mb. The most videos from the past contests are less than 10 mb. Then there are some about the 10 mb and about 5 which are over 15 mb (the biggest one had 22mb i guess).
To illustrate what I said, do you remember the first Jerry and De'vo's videos? Take the Xtreme one as an example. I guess it quite impressed you when you saw it. And that video was 1 minute long and about 5 mb in size. Yes, now it is not so impressing because there are many videos with better quality and maybe even better performance around. But why people liked it? Because it was somehting NEW. They would like it the same if it was captured by HD camera and if there was 1 extra minute of overhand shuffle at the end (maybe they would consider it more boring with the shuffle ). However I'm not saying that i agree with all De'vo's opinions...

Nice, maybe I am going to participate this time too.
Is there any rule that says that you have 10 posts before a deadline or so?

Yeah...but that "something new" that impressed in Xtreme one would have been all the more better if it was filmed in higher quality.
I think I'll be able to get a vid for this contest...but most of my vid I am wearing a Decknique shirt. If you guys are ok with it, I'm pretty sure I'll have a vid in

Hmmm doesn't look like I'll be entering...school and work have been holding me back Really a shame because I really wanted to make another flourishing video since I haven't done so in a while. Oh well, it's not like I was going to win anyways.
I guess I'll throw something together over the holidays just for fun if I don't find time this week to do so.
Anyone have their vids made already?

To make a good vid...it takes a long time. Trust me...
I don't know maybe its just me...but I'm not a huge fan of the simple vids filmed in front of a black background. I want it to be something more than just that.

as long as it shows the tricks/moves in a nice way i dont give a shit how much time a vid takes to make.
what im looking for in a vid is prefomance, i dont care that much for that other stuff.
therefore i dont think it has to take that long to make a vid =)

Yeah I could easily through something rough together, but I wanted to experiment with some editing effects and such. I don't know...we'll see what goes down.

how many are there? 5 or 6? yea this is definitely gonna be tougher than the last one. it's funny, after making the last one, i thought "hey, this is a pretty decent video." and now that i just finished this entry, i just watched the vid again and was disappointed in thinking "wow, that kinda sucked"
