Post A "Faux Clay Experiment" Reply with quote
I got a sample recently of some of the Faux Clay dice chips. At first, I wasn't all that amazed because they didn't really look or feel like clays that much. But, I wanted to put their sound to the test, and I was amazed by how it turned out!

First, I took a camcorder and hit record, then I shhuffled my chips a few times, I downloaded that video onto my computer and I would play it back, let the headphones down, and turn the volume up. I was amazed by how realistic it sounded.

Overall, I hope to buy me a set of these soon for my home games.

Interesting experiment. I've never handled faux clays. Only the super diamonds.

I've been meaning to get some, because they're so frigin affordable, and the solid colors really make them a good tourney set.

Not like I need more chips. Very Happy

That's reason #1 for why I am getting a set, they are affordable!

Faux clays are famous for feeling like clay chips, I wonder why yours didn't. Have you handled real clays before?

Yes, I have a few of the Blue Chip James Bond chips. The faux clays feel a bit harder and more like they're plastic. The texture is a bit rougher in these chips. But the sound I think is close enough to the clay chips.

I've handled every clay chip out there (owned a set of each - TRK, Paulson, ASM, BC) and I've played with faux clays...I don't get the comparison. Sure they're a good weight and don't sund like dice chips, but they're not like clays at all IMO. Nice cheap alternative, but I'd never lump them in with any clay chips. Infortunately they are very boring to look at, better than dice for sure...ten times better, but boring.

I'm gonna have to get a sample set to see for myself. All the colors are becoming harder to find these days. Yellow and Orange.

I agree with one thing, when it comes to feel, they do not feel alike because I think they Faux Clays have a rougher texture then clays. I don't buy these for the looks, the looks can be improved, if only slightly, with custom inserts. The sound of the chip is where it separates itsef from all other PLASTIC chips out there. When I did this experiement and I played it back, I was just amazed at how much they sounded like clays.

So a pro is that the sound of these chips can compare and can beat just about every plastic chip on the market. The con is that is the only close comparison there is with these chips.
