kem Cards Review
I noted that kem cards are good for poker but not for card tricks.
These reviews will be more meaningful if you guys can check out the page and post your reviews. There is no login and it only takes a minute!
Thanks. --Eric

That is an awesome idea. Ive heard a lot of people using Tally Hos and Streamline cards for both poker and magic, and I was thinking about picking up a pack. Hopefully a review for those cards will show up next?

I don't know about these kem cards, but I use 100% plastic cards quite often both for magic and card games, but also particularly when practicing as their durability is exceptional and one would otherwise go through a large number of regular Bicycle cards or whatever your preferred brand is. In some regards it took me time to get used to the cards, push-off second deals being one example
A few thoughts. Crimping with plastic cards is difficult at best. I also find the cards don't faro as well as say Bees, though I have surprisingly little trouble doing one-handed shuffles with them so go figure.
On the bright side of things they are great for palming as even if you bend the cards excessively they won't hold the shape and thus don't pose any risks in that regard. This same characteristic makes bullet deals easier as well. It does take some getting used to in order to adapt to the thinner cards in terms of double and triple lifts (I go by feel and the feel is naturally slightly different). Due to the price you wouldn't want to do any signed card tricks and would have great difficulty doing a torn and restored card trick.
I have found that excessive use on mine means that the faces have begun to fade, however I like the flexibility of the cards for riffle shuffling and the like.
Among other things I found that doing D'Amico one handed seconds required a different kind of touch and unfortunately controlling the cards one at a time tends to be more difficult making riffle stacking more of a chore.
The mention of durability is a good one though, I have friends who buy plastic cards simply because they play a lot of drinking games and those drinks tend to get spilled on the cards.
Anyway, those are my thoughts for now, thanks for the review.

I called and spoke to the USPCC about 3 weeks ago and they said that even though they bought kem, they have postponed shipping because of quality problems they found with kem cards.
They do not expect to ship till June 2005. But, I heard jan 2005 this past November.
Funny how they buy a company and halt shipping product for 6 months ?
I also know that the fired a lot of kem employees during the take-over

My choice for Magic--Black Decks |
|
Two decks for magic, and two only for me. Black Tigers and Vipers.
Black Tigers are Bicycle cards with a reversed image. It's all black and white, and they handle like a charm. I've done some of the smoothest moves and florishes with them. It's like a regular Bicycle deck on MLB steroids, so you know it's big. They were My #1 choice until these bad-asses came along, the Vipers.
Vipers are Tally-Ho decks like the Black Tigers, only sexier and more professional feeling. The Vipers are made with a UV500 Air-Flow finish, which makes them (I think) crisper and slicker than a Black Tiger (which are made with an Air-Cushion finish). The ink on he Fan Back is "Iced", meaning it is all black and SILVER. The pip and back designs are all in Silver ink, giving these a sexy and awe-inspiring look. The regular back is in silver and red. The hearts and diamonds are in red (same for the Black Tigers, it comes in two versions).
These two decks will seriously make you wet yourself. I ordered 3 Iced Vipers (and for 23.95, It was worth every penny) and muttered every swear word in the book when I handled these cards. Believe me, these are beautiful. You have to try them out.
You can check them out at Ellusionist.com. I recomend these with flying colors. Happy Tricking!

Homki,
This is a great post, I added it to the top of the http://www.21ace.com/Playing-Cards.php page. In addition to the regular Bicycle and Tally Ho reviews do you think we should add separate review pages for the Black Tigers and Vipers? Please let us know what you think.
Thanks,
Eric

Eric,
Thx for ur kind words.
That'd be really cool for a new review page on the Tigers and Vipers. They are quite different then their "regular" counterparts , and a seperate review page would let someone who wants to know about these cards find it easily. I think it would be a good idea.

Only real decks now. But you can add a sentence or two about the gaffed deck to your Black Tiger review if you want .

It has a bunch of special cards like double facers, double backers, special printed cards, etc. You could call it the "special assortment" deck of the Tiger deck.

For those who are interested, I recently saw some photographs of a new Bee back design deck. The cards are made on Bee stock and have a Bee back design. The big exception is that they also have white borders.
This is perfect.....why you may ask:
1) They have white borders which is great for magic and the have a Bee back design which is great for juice and luminous marked cards,
The best of both worlds....the only downside is that beginners may have trouble doing fake deals (ie. seconds) with the white borders. But, I think I am going to love them once I get some decks.
One other downside....the public has not seen them, so anytime you use a back design which is odd. people may get suspecious.....that is traditionally why I prefer Bicycles and Bees.....they are the most common. Hence they are less suspecious.
Enjoy !
