Dice Stacking |
|
Hi there,
I've taped some vids the other day, and I postedd them in the poker cards section, because it was all about gambling.
With this video , I'm not sure where to put it.
So, I guess the Off-Topic will do.
It's a little dice stacking thing. I would like some good comments if anyone of you like to help me out.
Thanks in advance!
I hope you like it,
T.

Really nice video. I've read something about dice stacking but I've never actually seen it
Where did you learn these?

There are a few places to learn stacking. I originally learned it from the Supreme Teach in booklet called Bernard's Lesson on Dice Stacking. This is Bobby Bernard's method, and there is quite a bit of detail in it (I worked through most of the book with Paul Wilson - we had metal cups we got from Muji - they beat hell out of the dice )
For those of you how can't, or don't like to read, there are a couple of DVDs out there. Jim Zachary (Jim Zee) has a DVD put out by L&L and Gerry McCambridge (of Gerry and Banachek) has a DVD called Extreme Dice Stacking.
It's one of the skills I've got earmarked for the Flash Git CD, but that's a few months away yet.
Take care, Ian

Kepe the vids coming

@ everyone
Thank you for the nice comments. I'm glad you liked it
I still find this one of the funniest things to do. Although as I said, some people do not consider this actual magic. It is indeed more a display of sleight of hand.
Ian gave you already some nice sources.
But I've learned these moves from a dvd called: The Dice Stacking dvd" with Todd Strong and Michael Maxwell. You'll learn almost everythin from Todd and he teaches very well.
I think with a few weeks practise this is something everyone will be able to do. After a few hours you'll already make some progress.
Check it out! I'm sure you'll like it
@Jonjo
I also like to see the faces from the people who are performing. I've tried to put my face in the camera, it may look a bit awkward because my head's almost at the surface of the table But at least you know who is talking to you.

Tom, nice video! I love the accent too I know nothing on the subject, but I do know that Niiro13 just recently got interested in dice stacking. It looks pretty fun and maybe I'll buy a video or book on it soon...
I usually don't show my face during my card presentations because I feel it has a chance to take the viewers eyes away from the cards. For example, if I'm sitting on my bed in my room filming a card video, the viewers' eyes might wander around to see what cool things I have on my shelves, what sports I play from my trophies, look for dirty socks on the floor, or they might look at my face or try to find something wierd You get the point...but anyway, that is why I now use a black backdrop, and just show from the shoulders to the waist...to keep the viewers audience watching what I want them too. However, I am not scared or worried to show my face...its really not that big of a deal. I plan on showing my face during a some cobra cuts in an upcoming video of mine

Dude, that is freakin' sweet. I love shit like that.
2 questions...
How long have you been doing it....how long did it take you to get that good and fast.
Is there any other kinds of tricks (sleights) you can do with the dice?

There are many things you can do with the dice in dice stacking!
I've almost got it down in both hands simultaneously.
Anyways, that was nice. All that uncut, and you even corrected the falling dice. I see how you go from top to bottom. I go in reverseof that. Makes no difference. De' went from right to left.
That dice control was amazing tho! Is there actually a technique to control the dice everytime?
Actually there's a faster stack than what you did. It was interesting how you backhand scooped it instead of forehand. But the fastest stack int he world requires on sweep. About the same formation as yours, only you scoop the dice, then set the cup down, then it is stacked! If you want, I can PM you a vid of it.
Overall, a very good video.
P.S. I have Todd's stuff too! Only not the DVD. But ti doesn't matter, as the technique to most of them is the scoop. Should be able to scoop up the dice in any formation. What I like to do is actually ahve someoen roll all four dice, then I stack them.

@ marp
You love my accent? Well, that's new Glad you like it.
I'm from the Netherlands, but I hope I do not sound Dutch/English.
Showing your face is not nessisary no. I think it makes it a bit more personal. You're right about the distracting part. Something at the background can actually distract the people that are watching the video.
Although, I prefer the personal touch it has.
@Chipmaster
Well thank you for those nice comments. You make me shy.
To be honest , I haven't been into dice stacking that long. I always wanted to do it, because it looked so great to me. I bought the Todd Strong dvd , let me see I have the receipt right here, july 20th 2005. So a bit more than a month.
I must say that after two weeks of practice and a lot of picking up dice, It went the right way.
It is not that hard when you're willing to practice and I'm sure that you'll be able to do it. If I can do it, almost anyone can.
@Baz
Interesting, haven't seen that one yet. I'm sure to check that one out.
@niiro13
Both hands... that sounds really cool. I'd love to see that.
I'm glad you liked it, and I do not like to cut during recording. I think it doens't give you that real feeling.
Indeed, I use a back hand scoop. I think this is easier for me. Also working from top to bottom suits me well I think.
About the dice control. If you are referring to calling a number, yes this is possible everytime. If you are referring to let the spectator cal a number, this is also possible everytime. This is shown on Todd Strongs dvd.
A faster stack then my fastest stack, I guess you're right. I use the back handed scoop, so this leaves me in the position of taking back the cup and thén placing it down. Maybe I'll try what you say. Just for experience.
I would love a pm about that.
So you can pm me if you like.
Thanks for all the nice words and the tips.
I'm sure to post any other videos soon on this forum.
Regards,
T.

Thank you for all these nice compliments. There are people out there who do this many, many times better. I'm a bit basic. Some stack more than four dice, some stack mini dice, huge dice, and use "cups" like Labello sticks etc. That is more "extreme dice stacking"
The moves that are displayed here in the video I learned from "the Dice Stacking video" from Todd Strong. Old and bold, but good explanation.
I hope the magic feeling will not go away once you've learned this, because I think it's one of the most exciting things to perfom and watch in magic.

I love dice stacking. People have no idea how it's done, and once you have it down, you'll get it about 99% of the time. I leaned from Jim Zee's video because L&L was having a VHS blowout and it was on sale for $10! What a deal.

Awesome vid! I have heard of dice stacking before, but have never actually seen it done. I showed this to my friends and they were absolutely speechless.

Yeah, dice stacking looks awesome. I'm thinking of buying an instructional dvd or something. There aren't enough of these vids around, in my opinion. |
Get Todd Stong's DVD. It is a very good DVD wich teaches the basics and more quite well!
