HAND DISCUSSION - Stars $55 turbo sng bubble |
|
Im going to be explanitory for those that don't get certain terms. I hope everyone can get in on this.
I don't have a HH. Im making it up. But everything will be exactly in poker stars structure.
This is a NLHE single table tournament. Pays three places. 20, 30, and 50 percent.
You are hero.
On the bubble (1 spot away from money) and everyone seems to have been playing decent. Button just lost huge pot and is shorty now, although he folds to hero.
Hero is in the Sb
Stacks before blinds:
Blinds 200/400 ante 25
BB 4050
Hero 6200
Btn 450
CO 3000
Dealt to hero - 74o
CO folds, Btn folds, hero???
Whats the best play here?

Raise it up, BB isn't going to mess with the big stack unless he has a very strong hand. He's 2nd in chips at the table with another guy only having 1BB almost. He shouldn't give you any problems unless he has a big hand or for some reason feels he wants to re-steal for his whole stack. Put in a small raise and i'd say he's gonna fold. On the other hand you could just fold and wait out the short stack. It kind of depends on your table image, but i'd still raise to maybe 1000-1200.

Exactly. Average size stack is less likely to call.

If I was "hero" I would probably raise it up to 1,000 because you have the BB covered by 2150 chips and 2150 may be alot smaller than 6200 its still enough to play a little poker. Sure, 7-4 offsuit is a not-so-good hand, but the BB afterall could have hands like Q-3, 4-2, K-5, 6-4, anything really, and because you have him covered and it's the bubble spot, it's likely that he'll fold and you'll pick 475 of their chips without a confrontation, which isn't a whole lot, but it can come in handy later on. If he calls, there are two things you could do post-flop. A: You could give up and check it down if you missed, but really, that almost guarantees that you're going to lose the pot. B: I'd bet the flop no matter what it is because you have the lead in the betting and if he missed the flop, he'll certainly fold, the trick here is how much to bet. If you miss the flop somewhere between 1,000 and 2,000 would be right, maybe 1,500, and then it would be right to give up the pot if he calls or raises that because the likelyhood that he's bluffing decreases when he doesn't want to go out in 4th and win $0. The point is you have the big stack and you cannot go broke, use it to your advantage here to increase your stack because the BB wouldn't want to go broke here because he sees the button sitting with 450, two antes and a BB, so there's no way that the BB is going to mess around unless he's got a great hand.
There is an alternative to all this, and that is simply folding, you may miss out on a shot at the small pot, but it brings the tiny stack closer to elimination where in 2 hands he'll have to go all-in in the BB.

Interesting reply's.
The best move here is...All-in.
Do you see why?

Well he's less likley to call, but I think if he was going to fold at a 6000 chip raise, he would fold to a 1100 chip raise. But this logic is probably more along the lines of a $5 SnG strategy.
On the other hand, he could easily see it as a move, and re-raise. In this circumstance, you'd have to fold. If you get all your chips in 1st, he's only going to call with a great hand, and the likelihood of him being dealt a premium hand is very small.
Wow, we both have 517 posts, Card. We can be "517 buddies" now, right?

He can only call with kings, aces, or big slick. This is because he is in second place, doesn't want to go out on the bubble, and someone is already short stacked enough that they will be in on the blind.
