Nobody knew the rules of poker, we played it anyway though. It wasn't until I got a card with the rank of poker hands with a deck of Tally Ho's, that we could actually play knowing who's won. It didn't occur to me until much later that poker is pretty pointless unless you bet. Same with blackjack I suppose. It's still fun but without betting, it eliminates the skill of the game - more of a game of luck.

To me the luck part is what cards u get in your hand and what community cards come out. But I think the skill part is when u have to bet knowing how much to bet without your making opponents fold.

Betting is definitely one of the areas where skill is crucial. When to bet your cards? When to semi-bluff? When to stone cold bluff?

My friends back home dont play cards at all. So I went to college and cards wre introduced, along with gambling. I was quickly drawn in due to my highly competetive nature.
That was last semester. So its been 6-7 months sence i FIRST started. My skill has inclined dramatically and I have a decent gameplay. It is always changing and improving as i gain experiance.
I feel i can be one of those guys that wins more then he loses consistantly if i keep up the playing and researching.
Thats my story. I can still be considered a beginner i guess. But im getting there.

Been gambling since about 15-16 with dice, & pool, when old enough to hit the casino started in with alot of roulette, moved on to blackjack, & now holding steady with poker for about 5 mos. now. WSOP really got me hooked & I have to say MoneyMaker , Ivey, & Farha are really the ones that got me hooked from the get go, now I have about 15-20 favs! Love the game, love the site, gl all.

>I've been playing since I was five and have loved it ever since. I got back into cards obsessivly two years ago after going back and forth being an escape artist and card magician as my hobbies over the years. But now I'm a vegas man. And my card routines consist of playing poker/black jack with manipulations to entertain my guest.

That’s about how I am but I think I started playing cards around 8 or so. I’m not sure, I know a lot of different games, I just enjoy the complexness of Hold’em more then any other games I know. Don't get me wrong I’ll sit down at really any type card game and play it. Even the old school game war

Been playing cards since I've was young. Only started betting about 6 or so months ago. And as mentioned above, the real skill in poker is when to bet. So I'm still a beginner

Dont know why, im the total opposite, ERg, Shuffle is sooo easy, but the twirl and knuckle roll boggle me, lol, geesh, i must be off because everyone is unlike me
Anyways, dont know hwo you could ever play without betting, like eric said, it is so crucial,
also, ive been playing about a year, most people here have been playing less than 6 months which seems right, after all these poker shows starting going on the air, tons of people learned the game, kind of funny how it just sparked all of the sudden
