Making Animated Gif Avatars for Free |
|
I made an animated gif avatar of the front to back trick as follows:
1. Use Bink and Smacker RAD Video Tools to make individual gifs by choosing video file, hitting Convert a File, choosing output type GIF and hitting convert.
2. Downloading UnFREEz2.1 from http://www.whitsoftdev.com/unfreez/ and running the program.
3. Dragging GIFs into UnFREEz and choosing Make Animated GIF
4. Uploading new avatar gif through Profile - Upload Avatar from your machine.
Pretty easy but worth writing down in case I forget.

Ian,
You were right it is not too bad. Now that I know how to do it I'll probably add more gifs throughout the site. It is a nice bonus because some visitors have trouble seeing videos depending on what kind of media player they have and how it was installed.

Animated GIF's are good because they're not as large as Videos, and you can slow it down too.

I'm having some trouble I'm using windows movie maker 2 but when I click to take picture it comes up with -
save file type: Picture Files (*jpg; *jpeg; *jpe)
or
All Files (*.*)
I've tried saving it as jpeg and then changing the extension to gif but it still doesn't work.
Any ideas?

You'll need to get an image converter - the Gimp is free and will do it, or Paint Shop Pro.
Load the image, then save it as a GIF.
If you scan the web you should be able to get hold of something that will do straight conversion, but you should get something like the Gimp as it will do soooo much more.
Take care, Ian

I made a video on my digital camera, then loaded it onto my laptop.
When i try to post it as an avatar is says it must be smaller then 100KB.
How can i make it smaller then 100KB?

You will probably need to compress it. However I don't think you can have an video as an avatar. Try to make a .gif animation.

My avatar is a video from my digital camera. I used macromedia flash to upload my video, then flash saved it as a gif.

Thx Eric for tutorial, but there exists an easier way to create animated avatar, just use Video UserPic!

I have macromedia flash, I never thought to just "save as" .gif! Great!

I just found this thread so sorry for the thread revival. I can make animated gifs from any youtube video although they're usually pretty big (500kb - 1.5mb). If anyone has any requests just post a youtube video of the one you want with a time marker.
Here are some of the ones I made:
--Sleepwalkers (posting on an account my friend made because my account is deactivated atm)
