masse cue |
|
hi,
i'm considering buying a schuler masse cue and i'd like to hear some oppinions. i know you would recomand a diekman and tim a crown, but a diekman is too expensive for me. So, do u think the 450 for the schuler will be well spent?
thanks

You can get a dieckman cheaper than 450. If you're pressed for cash, I think stealth makes one for $100. I haven't tried it though.
If you give Dieckman a shaft, he'll make you a custom masse butt to fit it, which will be cheaper than the schuler. It's more expensive than the stealth but...well, you know how I stand behind the Dieckman as far as quality.
Several of the other big shots use the schuler masse cue. I think andy segal has two of them. I do know this though, there are other makers that will do you one for cheaper than $450. There's a cuemaker I went to, whose name slips my mind right now, that'll make you a custom for less. I can find his name if you like, but again, I don't know how the quality compares to the Dieck.

i know the butt from dieckman will cost about 300, but i dont have a shaft suitet for masse. I want a 14 mm tip and i dont have that. About the cheaper ones.......well, i'd rather wait and get something of better quality. My masse stroke has really improved lately, I can make shots i never thought i would pull off using a chopped "house cue" with 1$ tip:)). I hope a solid masse cue will add consistency and power. My options are limitted because for every cue I have to add $150 for transport and taxes. I did the maths and came up with schuler as my best option. I just wanted to know if the cue is worth the money.
thanks

yes, the price is only for the butt. The shafts are sold separately and cost another $175.

As to the Schuler, like I said, several of my professional colleagues use it, so it must be good. I'm not exactly sure how much my Dieckman weighs. We put it on the scale the other day and it read about 20oz. I thought it was a few ounces more than that.
Vash, you should email Dieckman directly and see if he has any already made that he might be able to sell at a more reasonable price. cuebuilder@cuemaker.com
Tell him I sent you. I hope this helps.

I'm sure you'll get used to whatever you get. If you're unsure, probably go heavier because you can turn it down later (I did). I guess the biggest thing will be the shaft stiffness which will be the primary factor in determining the hit of the cue. You'll feel a difference between tips as well (hard vs soft) but everything else you can probably adjust for.

Tim's a smart man. Dude, just go for it. If you're serious about learning masse and performing/competing, it's worth it.

Yaps im decided ....im going to get one ...for my short budget im not gonna get a brand cue like schuler /dieckman ..... but from where im getting it im more than sure it will be awsum .....: and its custom made ..so i can whoose everyhting just as i want it ... !!!
As per u guys said ...i think im gonna make it 14 mm ..with talisman midium tips ..... maybe 4 inch longer then the jump cue ...weight will be kinda like 24 Oz ....i ll get 2 shaft with it so ill make sure they r well stiff ......i think he is gonna make mine with rosewood ..i heard thats great .......i didnt decided abt color yet .... i guess he is gonna make the butt purple or sumthing like that ...but i want a white one like semih seyginer ((((((((
I dont think ill go competeting ...but i thought it will help me to learn, perform and be constant on my masse shots ....

Don't expect the masse cue to do all the work. I just got my schuler the other day. Of course there's a huge difference. For example with my regular cue i started shooting around 3 balls on the short side of the table and got up to 8. With the masse cue i made it around 16 blocker balls. I also made the big kahuna, but only twice in 50 tries. A good stroke and hitting exactly where u aim on the cb is the most important. Remember, buying a race car, doesnt automatically make u a race car driver. I guess everyone will agree on this. I love my new cue, but i know theres still a long way ahead. Best of luck
