Ryan has made another outstanding video.

He makes the card vanish in the Stealing pips by Oz Pearlman video.

I might be selling my Stealing Pips DVD on Ebay soon, so keep an eye out everyone. To see a demo go to penguinmagic.com. Oz is a good teacher. ~Ryan

I didn't come up with the routine so I can't teach you how to do it.

that's a very visual performance, ryan. gj and well done.

i'm working on it myself. it's hard to do it quietly, though. (especially the hand passes, as the noise on the vanish isn't so important.)

If you cant see how its done by watching I doubt you will be able to pull it off with a "tutorial". Rolling Eyes

i just watched your performance and screwed around with it to figure it out.

i've sort of moved on to trying to figure out at least one pass, which i'm having quite a hard time with.

Im not saying that your work isn't recognized. I would hold it against myself if someone were to actually make somethign the size of a playing card disappear in front of me without me having a pretty good idea of exactly where it is. And its not like I can just watch your vid and redo the whole thing myself, to replicate your moves I would need to work for a week or so I'd imagine. Either way I wouldn't take offense to someone knowing how you do a trick, rarely do I see one that is truely disguised. Your moves are very convincing and entertaining, but no matter how much you practiced, that type of routine will always be a palmed card.

ack! don't get me wrong, your performance was terrific, as i noted above.

the thing with making a performance movie, though, is that you can put it on repeat and watch it as many times as you want. i probably watched it for 2 hours before i had a general idea of how the moves were done. then learning things to a point where i was fluent with the moves, and satisfied with thier visibility and audibility took about 10 hours, cumulatively.

this is why the pass is such a pain for me; i can't tell how it's done from watching videos.

so no, your time wasn't wasted. in fact, it inspired me to go out and buy some books ^.^

Blaze, I wasn't talking to you when I made that reply. Smile

smerxer, magic is supposed to be entertainment. If you watched that in the real world you would have seen it once...no slow mo, or rewind... And you took 2 hours out of your personal time to rip someone off of their routine (by the way its not my routine)? Watch magic to be entertained or don't watch it. Period.

Its the worst when you are performing for someone who only watched to figure it out...in fact I hate performing for these people. But when someone wants to watch to have fun is when magic is great. They don't want to know how it works because they think that spoils it. Think about that....and if you still want to learn it go buy the video instead of using my video to take a shortcut and learn something the cheap way...

yes, magic is entertainment, i think everyone realizes this. i've been watching and learning tricks for the past 3 months, and so it's natural for me to disect something when i see it. i would argue, though, that when you post a magic trick on a forum who's readerbase are aspiring magicians, the vast majority of them are going to try to learn the moves, as opposed to watching the video once and deleting it. hence the tutorial section, and array of threads pertaining to "how do i (insert trick name)." when you post someone else's routine under these conditions, it's going to get disected, and you know this.

i do plan on ordering Oz's tutorial as well, but i'm impatient.

ps - i never planned on performing this routine for anyone, though i'm sure the moves will come in handy. mostly, it was for my education and entertainment. i'm sorry if i've offended you or Oz Very Happy

Actually I share my videos to get feedback and hear what you guys think, not so you can watch it 573 times and figure it out. If everyone thinks I share my videos so you can figure them out then you are very wrong and I won't share more if thats what you feel. But I think you should be able to watch my videos and enjoy them not disect them...

Also, if a magician sees an effect he wants to learn he asks where he can learn it, not how to do it...You have to pay to learn the effects.

i don't necessarily agree with you, about having to pay for effects. i'm a big believer in using all of my assets. however, i do respect your cause and work, and therefore will not attempt to learn anymore of the effects that you perform.

however, this dosen't include common effects, such as the pass, etc.

again, i'm sorry if i've offended you, or intruded at all.

I cant really find anyone but these types of people these days. Perhaps if I performed in front of strangers they would act differently, but ofcourse I just pull my tricks out in front of relatives and friends. They are comfortable around me, so they usually ask to see it done several times and try to watch for me to goof up so they can see how its done.

I went to my grandpa yesterday and asked him to pick a card, then i did a pass and had his card pop out with the hot-shot cut. He simply remarked "oh, so your using marked cards". Rolling Eyes He wasnt really entertained at all and hes not the type of person you correct. Not that it proves my point at all, that just kind of entertained me.

It really depends how you present your magic. Make up different ways to explain your effect. Sometimes no speaking is the best way to go. After you get some knock-em dead effects and you perform them people won't want to figure them out, they will really want to enjoy the magic.

seems like it's mostly guys that get all analytical. i hate to make the generalization, but females seem to appreciate the mystery of the effects without all the disection.

I wouldnt worry about that generalization at all and for the most part you pinned it right on the head. I am the type of guy (basically its how I got into this site) that wants to tear everything mysterious down right away and figure out how its done, where as most women that viewed my slights the last couple days simply gave me props and left it at that.
