Of all the poker books on the market |
|
I've noticed that a lot of the books on the market are really repetitive or not very comprehensive. I feel that a few of the authors are just trying to make money off of their name and the recent "poker boom." What books do you feel are the best poker books overall and best hold'em books?

Dutch i havn't seen you post in this board in a long time, welcome back...
i can only comment on limit books, for the most part but here is what i have read and liked the best
Beginner:
Small stakes hold'em (SSHE) - Ed Miller, David Sklansky, Mason Malmuth
The Theory of Poker - David Sklansky (not specific to limit)
Advanced:
Hold'em Poker For Advanced Players - David Sklansky and Mason Malmuth
Weighing the odds in hold'em poker - King Yoa (my favorite book personally)
It's kinda nice to post here again it's been awhile for me as well... Best of regards PokerFanatic

it has a lot of math yes but it has words that are also easy to follow were you don't need to have a math degree to understand the points

it's a good place to start though, most of them are based on low buyin games, you're right they wont work at higher levels of play.

true, but who starts out at the higher levels of play? I'd say most start playing lower limits first. Besides, the few poker books I've read are more to stimulate other philosophical/strategic poker ideals. I don't just regurgitate what I read, or implement everything I read into my own play. I dissect it, and decide what's right for me.

Harrington on Hold'em is the most comprehensive NL HE tournament book. Some think the strategies are obvious, however, with all the loose players at low limits, his tight style usually works.

tight styles work great at low stakes not only because players tend to make a lot of mistakes but you also have to take into account the huge amount the rake effects your pots, in 100/200 a $2 rake has less efect then say at 1/2, where it's an entire BB... so larger stakes have less rake impact thus you can play more hands with +EV, now don't try to do the same crap in $25nl as they would in say $2knl players are vastly different and rake has less impact, so games are like night and day.
