 Ordering my first chips... |

Hi, I'm 17 (turning 18 in July) so I'm using my mom's credit card (and yes, with her permission). She has VISA and MasterCard. I'm from the Philippines, in Southeast Asia and we don't have Paypal (so EBay's out of the question). Amazon only ships books, CDs, DVDs, casette tapes among other things. No poker chips for us from Amazon  .
So I spent the entire afternoon looking for a site that looks okay (well, okay with my mother more than me since it IS her credit card) and accepts VISA or MasterCard and ships poker chips here. I found epokerdeals.com about an hour ago (through Eric's post below about new Paulsons, thanks btw!  ).
I am so excited that I want to order 50 or 100 Paulsons (don't even know which ones to get) but my more mature (and cautious) side tells me to order the free shipping sample sets first. I experimented with 50 classic Paulson chips and got shipping costs of about $23-30, which is about half of the price of the chip set itself. So, I think I'm going to try the sample sets for roughly $11 per set of 7 Paulsons, with free shipping.
My first set of chips were 100 WPT chips from a store selling pool stuff, Swiss Army knives, ballpens and other outdoor tools. They cost me an equivalent of $70. Ouch, I know, but unfortunately I didn't know any better (I saw what I thought were actual poker chips and just HAD to spend a month's savings for them). It was my mistake, not checking the internet or anywhere for the prices of those chips, that was before I even got to poker chip tricks.. Now I've saved a bit more, but like a burned animal, I'm treading more cautiously..
So, seeing as I am young (and foolish), I have LOTS of questions. This is my first time ordering ANYTHING. Even within my country. Even before ordering the sample sets, I would really appreciate some help!
-Is Epokerdeals a good site to order from?
-Has anyone from Asia ever ordered from them and had favorable results?
-Is $23-30 expensive for shipping to Asia?
-Is the shipping cost expensive period? .
-What chips? I'm thinking Paulsons because of all the favorable reviews, and that's why I was thinking of buying sample sets.
I'm 17, a college student. I have a weekly allowance and a scholarship fund, and I study in a school where our tuition fee is subsidized by taxpayers. In other words, I don't want a repeat of my WPT tragedy (the chips are fine btw, it's just the price I bought them for that isn't). (On a sidenote, I weighed them during Physics lab on a digital scale and the reading ranged from 10.9 to 11.3 grams each)

Well Paulsons are good for tricks and poker since they're the standard to which all other chips are judged. I dont think I understand buying 50-100 chips, since it's not enough for a full set (unless you're playing heads-up) and its more than you'll need for chip tricks. So buy some samples (10 chips is good) and then buy a set if you're happy. And remember their are other chips than Paulsons out there.

Ordered two samples (one each of Pharaoh's Paulsons and Classic Paulsons) and some of the 20-chip plastic holders.. Hope they get here soon..

Hmm, good point.. Was hoping to actually buy 50 chips at a time (while I have money), but maybe a one-time order would be better.. I'll check the shipping price difference for 500 chips and 10 orders of 50 chips and see if the wait would really save me a lot more..

50 or 100 at a time might not be that bad of an idea if the shipping isn't killer.
It's be a way to get a nice set, bit by bit.
I'm still adding to my labeled Nexgens. Started with 500, then got labels. Then ordered 300 more chips. I just ordered 600 more labels and am getting 200 more chips shortly.

Yea, buying in 50-100 increments would put less sudden strain on your wallet, but if you're paying $30 or whatever each time it will add up, and maybe the extra shipping could have bought you an extra 50 chips or something.

For a Playable set i dont think i personally could buy 50-100 chips at a time slowly building up to a set, i want the complete set right away lol. I had an incredible luck when i bought my Cherry Paulson sets, and im really happy with them, dont use any other chips for poker.
But for chip tricks its no problem buying 20 - 100 chips. not so big strain on the wallet.
Im not using any other chips than Paulson for Poker/Tricks cause they feel and look awesome.
Pure clay trick chips gets very worn when practicing alot, thats why i rarely use my playable set chips for tricks.
so my tip is to buy 20 -100 chips just for chip tricks and keep them away from from your playable set (if clay) just cause they will get very worn.

Well for 50 Paulsons that's $49.99 + $23.65 for shipping. That's $73.64. If I do this say, ten times, that's $736.40 for ten shipments. For 500 chips in one shipment that's only $499.90 + $137.15 = $637.05. That's a $99.35 difference, a bit more than an extra 50 chips including shipment.
But thinking realistically I'm not going to be able to save that much money in a year.. May have to think about this more.. (Not to mention I want to buy my own cue stick since my dad doesn't want to buy me one)

Still no confirmation e-mail about the order.. I followed-up with a ticket on Thursday and they replied the next day with "We'll send someone to look into it".
Today they sent an e-mail that the reason why it took so long was because the Pharaoh's Club Paulsons were mostly out of stock, and they were hoping to get more that week. So they're refunding my mom's card, and according to them, going to be shipping today, wiith an additional "I can send you one or two for free" at the end.
I hope so!

So they're only shipping one or two free for now? I guess it's better than nothing. It's a nice gesture since they have no way for them to come in stock faster.
Sigh, how I long for some Paulson's. I should get some so I don't have to use my casino chips for tricks.

@200 I long for them too..
After a few more days of correspondence, they're refunding the $10.49 they charged for the Pharaoh's Clubs, but my mom's card got charged today already for the entire amount.. Estimated date of arrival? 7-14 days.. I don't know whether to laugh or cry.. Laugh, "finally" or cry, "1-2 weeks?!"..
Ah well, guess it's laugh or die then.. XD

Woohoo!!! Just got them today! Got the claim tag yesterday..
6 Paulson classics and 1 Pharaohs.. And 5 plastic containers (can hold 20 chips each) XD
Now I can set up my next order.. Thanks for all the help guys! ^^

Yeah my mom wanted to make sure the site/company was reliable..
So now that we know they are (even if it does take 5 weeks, which isn't their fault at all), I'm going to be ordering more samples so I know which chips I sort of "feel" with.. I'm thinking Nexgens, but I haven't felt them yet..
That's why I'm ordering more samples before I actually buy more.. ^^
