The audio on the ace_o_spades tutorials is really helpful. Great clips for learning some pen spinning basics.
Don't blink if you are watching the Asperitas clips. It is true that the hand is quicker than the eye.
I love all these short clips that let the viewer concentrate on 1 trick at a time.
Thanks Again for hooking us up Asperitas and ace_o_spades!

You have to build one out of 2, 3 or 4 pens. Pennpinners call their pens mods.
You wanna end up with a pen that is about 7.5 inch long and has it's center of gravity exactly in the middle.
This is the best pen to start out with.
Get 2 equal pens with hood. Must be pens where the hood can be put onto the end of the pen. Get rid of any clip attached to the hoods. put both hoods on each side of one of the pens. Than you need one or two pens with rubber grip stuff (xcuse my engl. what I mean is that red stuff in the pic)
The rgs (rubber grip stuff) has go over the hoods so pick a very thick Pencil to take the rps from. You cut the rgs into half and slipp each half over each hood. This applies more weight to the ends of the pen. also the littel edge at the ends of the rgs is used to hiold and catch the pen later.
The longer and heavier a pen is the slower it spins.
take your pen and balance it on your finger to find the center of gravity (cog) normally it schoud be closer to the tip of the pen. In order to get the cog in the middle you need more weight on the back of the pencil. This could be glue, rubberbands left rgs, anything (note that glue might loose weight while drying out) . Try out until the cog is in the middle. then glue that hood to the pen. You can leave the other hood and the tip of the pen like it is. This way you can still use it as a pen.
Mark the cog.
your done.
Your pen might look a little like the pen with the yellow hoods (the black part of the hoods is the rgs)
The other mod is very easy and works very well. It#s just a normal pencil with erasers stuck on each end. Those erasers to stick onto a pencil are just a few cent. only a pencil is a little thin. but still a good pen for spinning.[img][/img]

Hi, didn't know there were actually names for these until I saw this part of the forum..
In our school about 1/3 to 1/2 of every class can do either the Sonic or the Thumb-around one way or both. I can do both, but I've seen some maniacs (nevermind the word, I'm just too envious of them XD) doing the Thumb-around two ways. I still can't do the clockwise one (not for lack of effort I assure you, I just can't seem to get the right grip to go backwards).
And a few of them can do it continuously too, clockwise-counterclockwise-clockwise etc etc without stopping (yes, I just stare for about 20 seconds and the pens keep spinning). Anyone know if there's a tutorial for this somewhere or if it even has a name?
Thanks! Great start on the thread guys!

I've seen a vid of that continious thumbaround. Now that's one smooth looking trick. actually that was the vid that got me started on PS a little. I thought with a little practice I'd be able to do the trick, but today I know it takes a little more practice then I thought. I just can't do it.

Argh my internet's half-dead right now.. Photobucket won't load for me for some reason..
Anyway, took a video of the Thumb-around-return of my former classmate in high school.. Sorry for the quality, I just used my celphone..
---Edit---
For now, here's the only site I was able to upload it to.. Plays at my computer using Quicktime, if any of you could convert it to wma or some such to be uploaded here, I'd really appreciate it.. XD Youtube and Photobucket aren't loading for me right now.. It's a .mp4, 20 seconds long, small file.

Man that's exactly what I have been working on the past little while. Right now I'm just trying to learn the thumb around reverse. I can get it to spin backwards, but I can't seem to catch it.
One day...one day...

That's good! Once again, THIS ISN'T ME! That is my former classmate in high school.. Hehe, really went through some pain to get this vid, I don't know her sked so the first time I saw her I took this already.. Almost missed my next class XD
And I still can't do the reverse!! Argh!!
If anyone finds a tutorial to the reverse thumb-around and/or the continuous one, please post it here.. It really looks nice..

The Basics are:

the unknown trick 2 is Twsited Sonic
You do Twisted Sonic -> Wiper reverse -> Thumbaround
Wiper reverse -> Thumbaround is called Cardioid ... you may be cinfused because of all this names ^^
