I like the push-off, it has that smooth and casual look in my opinion. then again ive never tried using strike on a spec before, so I don't know which one they like better

It depends on the push-off.. it depends on the strike..
The Syldini handling of the strike second deal that most notably Scarne used (it featured in the Sting) has an extremely fluid and natural style and looks to all extents and purposes like a push-off second without the fuss of the push-off. The standard for want of a better word "small brief" strike second (i.e. the brief isn't a feature of the deal) however is a damn sight easier to master completely than a push-off second deal is to master, which I believe accounts for it's popularity. When you watch a good push-off deal executed well there is really no comparison between the strike second and the push-off second, one looks contrived and slightly fishy, the other looks fluid and natural, one looks like a normal deal the other doesn't..

I've always preferred a strike, but I've recently started playing with a push off stud deal (I was bored...)
Fervid nailed it; it depends on the deal. The advantage I think Strikes have over pushoffs is that it is easier (more convincing?) to deal consecutive seconds.
Take care, Ian

i do both in my performances.....another advantage strike's have over push-off's is that the strike's can be performed much faster...

Speed is a matter of practice, you can execute a push-off pretty much as fast as a strike once you get it down, it's just much more difficult to master because there are more obvious potential tip offs and some greater technical difficulty.
In most cases though I definitely believe in the superiority of a push-off second, though the Slydini handling (very similar to the Wesley James option second) is quite good too.

I also believe it is a matter of style and preference....I know people who swear by the strike. But, I prefer a push off.
The real key is dealing naturally, smooth and consistant speed. You also want to practice sailing cards as well as dealing in a pile.
have fun ! |
Any footage of your deal? I'd be interested to see it, especially in conjunction with a juiced deck..
