Random Bad Beat of the Day II |
|
Yes, because everyone LOVES bad beat stories, I am going to share another one with you guys. But this time, I have a purpose for showing these bad beats, to show you how fancy plays result in bad beats!
Here's one bad beat...for the other guy!
(Some of the players IDs have been blacked out and thus will be referred to as "Mystery Players")
Full Tilt Poker Game #1907384675: Table Varna (6 max) - $0.05/$0.10 - $3 Cap No Limit Hold'em - 20:51:48 ET - 2007/03/02
Seat 3: SilentBobAK47 ($7.35)
SilentBobAK47 posts the small blind of $0.05
ljlsrlk posts the big blind of $0.10
The button is in seat #2
*** HOLE CARDS ***
Dealt to SilentBobAK47 [Tc Qd]
Mystery Player 1 calls $0.10
Mystery player 2 folds
Mystery Player 3 calls $0.10
Mystery Player 4 folds
SilentBobAK47 calls $0.05
Mystery Player 5 checks
*** FLOP *** [4d Ts 3h]
SilentBobAK47 bets $0.30
Mystery Player 5 raises to $0.60
The Rest Fold
SilentBobAK47 calls $0.30
*** TURN *** [4d Ts 3h] [Td]
SilentBobAK47 checks
Mystery Player 5 bets $0.60
SilentBobAK47 raises to $2.30, and is capped
Mystery Player 5 (thinks for a few seconds) calls $1.70, and is capped
SilentBobAK47 shows [Tc Qd]
ljlsrlk shows [As Ah]
*** RIVER *** [4d Ts 3h Td] [2s]
SilentBobAK47 shows three of a kind, Tens
(Very Angry) Mystery Player 5 shows two pair, Aces and Tens
SilentBobAK47 wins the pot ($5.60) with three of a kind, Tens
Here is the old slow play Aces in the BB trick, didn't work out for him this time now did it? I know some of you are going to say "THIS ISN'T A BAD BEAT!" but it could be if the chips had gotten in the middle on the flop, so this is sort of a bad beat.

Wrong! I actually got the money through some freeroll tournaments
And, actually, I am going to play live poker next Sunday at the Seneca Allegany casino in New York, it should be fun. I might make a post about my trip there when I return here the next day.
If you can, please give some tips for playing the live games because I am used to playing online, though I do have experience with some live games with friends.

Don't go all-in on first hand lol!
Usually live games are a bit more tight then e-poker.
Try to pick-up info from you opponents by watching them when you are not playing.
Make up your image before you start playing (tight/agressive /passive /rock/ etc)
Make sure you dont give away tells.
Thats the best I can do for ya, the rest is up to you good luck tho!

Don't play $2/$4 limit. The low end tourneys are usually a crap shoot. Stick to $1/$2 NL.
Take time to sit down and observe the other players. You should be able to spot the fish within a few hands. Play against them accordingly. There'll be some locals at the table to. Try to avoid playing against them.

LOL thanks for that tip Asperitas
The trip has been moved, now I'm going on the 17th. Which is good for me because I will be getting some live practice before that, next Monday there's a home game me and a friend are going to so I should get some live practice there.
What about buy-ins? What's the minimum buy-in? And what is the reccomended buy-in for a 1-2 game?

Most people at a casino $1/$2 table will buyin for $100. Usually it's min $60, max $200 or $300.

You do have to recall this is a 200/400 NL game!!! Given the stakes, it's not about the cards you hold it's about the guy/girl you’re across the table from...
these guys minds are so far into game theory that the average person can't comprehend it very easily... these players play each other over 1000s of hands a day... they know how each other plays very well... it's not really knowing that it will come it's thinking the guy doesn't has shit and making a move that backfired with bad timing and getting lucky with a 2 outer... bad beats happen to everyone and are given by everyone from time to time... as we saw on that hand both those players are pros... durrrr is always on the high stakes nl tables... he's one hell of a NL player... at those stakes i don't really think i would want ANY of those guys at my table, i watch these games here and there and i haven’t seen one just flat out donkey player yet...
Whatever you do… DON’T IMPLEMENT this kind of thinking into your small to middle stakes games it will make you a loser in the long run stick to more traditional methods unless you KNOW exactly who you are playing and how they will typically play hands… and that’s a very specific thing to even try… so I would assume avoid it until you hit the highest level games where you HAVE to implement it to come out ahead…

The strange thing about this beat is that i think it could have been worse. For instance if the one guy had aces and the other guy had the quad tens, then 2 aces came on the turn and river. Still that was the sickest beat i've seen in a while.
