Snooker to become better at pool? |
|
Today at my local pool club, I played a couple of games 8-ball against someone who was ranked 1st in Belgium 2 years ago. I was stunned by his skill, I mean he breaks, and he clears the table without giving me a chance to shoot a single ball... and he didn't even use his own cue... although I managed to win a game from him by also making a clearance from the break He couldn't believe I only play for 8 months
After the game I talked to him and he told me the reason why he is so good at pool is because of playing a lot of snooker. He says by playing some tough positional shots on a snooker table, you learn a lot and you can also use some of those techniques on the pool table. I saw him play some crazy shots in-game which were almost like trickshots to me. I then showed some of my trickshots to him and he was quite amazed by some of them. But he also said that in Belgium, there is almost no future for trickshotplayers whatsoever. they barely have enough pool teams to arrange a regular Belgian Championship. So I'm wondering if it wouldn't be better for me to concentrate on regular 14.1, 8 and 9 ball.
I think next season I'll start playing pool matches for ranking and see where I'm at on this level... Of course I won't quit trickshots because I love the game
But what do you guys think...? Is it better to start playing pool immediately or to start playing snooker leagues first to learn some required techniques to bring to a pool game the season after that? I know it's a weird question on a trickshotforum, but I really think that snooker leagues can help a lot with learning the proper draw, follow and stun techniques. Not that i can't do this already, but sometimes my accuracy is a little off and the guy i was playing said it was because of my bridge. I use almost always an open bridge when playing because I find it easier ths way.
So let me know what you guys think of this...

Hey Tbuzz,I Play Every Monday In A A1 Leage At My Local Poolhall.Almost Everyone Of The REGULARS Is A A+ Player So I Know What You Mean.I Play Alot Of 8 Ball And 9 Ball.My Goal Is To Compete Professionally In Artistic Pool And Regular Pool,Although There Is Much MORE MONEY In 9 Ball.My Uncle Lenny Told Me Playing Alot Of Snooker Would Improve Your Pool Game Bye Leaps And Bounds Due To The Bigger Playing Surface And Smaller Pockets, But You Probably Already Knew That.I Think Playing Challenge Matchs Would Be Good For Your Game But I Would Join Some Type Of Leage. As For The 14.1,Strait Pool And Such I Dont See Too Many People Playing That Much Anymore,Takes To Long,I Would Focus On 9 Ball Thats Were All The Money Is In Professional Tournaments.I Would Play Snooker Every Now And Then (Couple Times A Week)Then Play Lots Of 9 Ball.Get To Were Your Comfortable Potting Balls And Moving Around The Table. The More You Practise Your 9 Ball 8 Ball Or Whatever Game The More Your Vision For Shot types Ext Will Grow I'M Ranked Third In My Poolhall And An A1 Ranked Leage Player,I'll Try And Get Some Video Of Me Runnin Racks Like Yow,Best Run Ever 3 Racks In A Row To Win The Tournament

I think is pretty obvious that snooker can be very good means to get better at pool...
Especially with pool balls on it. I've tried that, pretty fun !
btw, very good run out, JKN
