Try scoring yourself with no practice shots, just go all the way through taking no more than 3 attempts. Now, you have a base score - don't expect any lower of yourself. Then, practice each 'easy' shot until you get it 5x in a row at least once. Try to get as many of the shots marked off of your "5x" list as you can. Keep working on the harder ones until you feel good about them (3 or 4x). Then, take a day to go through it under tournament conditions. That means taking 4 minutes to warm up on disciplines 1 and 2 on a table you've never practiced on, then shoot disciplines one and two. Repeat for the rest, doing two disciplines at a time and ONLY taking your 4 minutes to warm up. Then, when you get to jump and masse, don't practice the masse in your 4 minutes. See what your score is after doing all that...
Mine went from scoring 180s in practice to 222 in the 06 WC. My best practice score was like 240 or 250 or something. Beat it under simulated tournament conditions. Then go to St.P and take on the WORLD!!!

thanks a lot. I'll practice some more this week and next weekend i'm going to shoot for the base score. I'll post the result here (hopefully, i wont be to embarassed to do so) One more thing, some shots are very difficult on 9 foot tables with 860 cloth. Will they play any faster in competition?

This is a great topic...
I think , if you practise on 9 ft table for a longer time, then is a little easier on 8 foot table.
Long time ago, I played on a snooker table, with a standard pool balls !, it was a funny because the pool balls were almost about the same size like the snooker pockets... then on a 8 ft table, I did a number of clear game of 8 ball...
I guess, with APTSA shots program it would be a similar.

I practise the APTSA program in accordance with this http://artisticpool.org/game/disciplines.html
Is there the info valid ?

Pro events are always played on 9', both artistic and otherwise. 8' tables are not 'regulation', 9' tables are 'regulation'.
The simonis 860 is fast and at the artistic tournaments it is played on NEW, tight simonis, so it's pretty fast.

you are lucky. You can practice the entire shot programm !
I can only practice discipline 1-3-4-5, 4 shots from discipline 2 (without the 3 jump shots) and 6 shots from the stroke discipline (without the jump shot).
I can score around 60 with these shots but I don't have time to practice often. I think I'm going to try what yow said. Hope it works !

I finally had time to practice some trick shots ! I haven't played for a month now so I tought it was the best time to set my base score. Unfortunately, I shot 73 (without all jump and masse shots) witch is my highest score. that's high for a base score !
I score 18 and 26 in the 2 first disciplines so my problem isn't there. My problem is in the stroke discipline in witch I score a wonderful score of 0. If you can give me any advice on these shots, I would appreciate.

well, the discipline is called "stroke", so maybe u need to work on exactly that, your stroke. Check out all the basics again: stance, balance. Try not to move anything but the shooting arm. Also check the setups of those shots again and maybe browse through the forum for instruction for those particular shots or yow's or tim's sites. And last but not least, practice more. Good luck.

Thanks vash ! I'll try that.
I still can't believe I shot 26 in the second discipline with only shot 1, 3 and 5.

I haven't practiced in what feels like ages. My last tournament was in March, then I had the ESPN thing on the 3c table. So, I haven't really shot the pro shots at all! This summer I studied for the Bar Exam so I wasn't practicing at all then. Now that I've moved to start work as an attorney, I haven't worked on the pro shots since I've been here (almost 3 months I guess). So, what better time to get a base score to move up from? Ha! Well, I thought I'd shoot worse than I did, that's for sure. With no practice, no warm up, just walking to the table and taking 3 attempts at all the shots, I scored 185. Not bad! I'm satisfied. I think I did about that in the Masters back in March! (I hadn't been practicing then either, though.)
What's your base score, VASH?
Once you get the base, since you'll be competing, aim to get an average of 180 on a bad day. If you're rockin that consistently, aim to get 190. Then, try to break 200 a few times in a row.
Starting next week I'm going to go back to working on making the shots 5x in a row.
