When you know you're addicted... |
|
This is about knowing when you're addicted to gambling...
First if you well take bets/ bet on anything from a poker game to something stupid... an example of something stupid is like betting on how many times you can bounce off the ground on a pogo stick... Either way you might have a problem that needs help with... poker sure it's got luck involved but it's mostly skill and most people know how to walk away for awhile... when you get into other forms of gambling such as say greater then $1000 on a damn sports game... you got a problem that needs help... Straight Gambling and ability to gamble well are two completely different things... If you go broke time after time and are in a hole from gambling you need help...
Rules of thumb:
1) Know when to quit
2) Don’t bet with money you can't afford to loose (you will loose it eventually, at least once)
3) know the odds of what you are betting on, if it only consists of luck then fu*king don't bet on it... example (trying to kick a ball on top of a building from a certain location on the ground (yes you could do a mathematical figure for this but I mean seriously it's all about how you kick the ball... my opinion it's lucky to get it right... unless you're some pro soccer player or kicker)), i mean come on bet smart and on shit you can win with out much luck...
Hope you all enjoy this, and if you are an addict there is a thing called GA (Gamblers Anonymous)...

This is an old thread, but it's an interesting topic.
I used to gamble a lot on slot machines. They had Video Lotto Terminal in every corner store and pub around here. You could bet from 5cents to $2.50 per spin. They eventually took them out and just left them in pubs. I used to spend a fair chunk on these silly things, until poker became popular. A gambling game that I could control the end result.
At the same time, I was struggling with trying to quit smoking cigarettes. On April 14th, 2005 I quit playing VLTs and cigarettes. I haven't had a cig to my lips or put a nickel in a VLT since. My trip to Vegas was an exception to gambling with a slot machine, however, I still felt silly pushing buttons and having no input on the end result.
Reading some of David Sklansky's gambling concepts and the wizard of odds website really made me understand table games are a better value entertainment wise when in a casino, opposed to a slot. Poker being the only one that I could expect to come out ahead on the majority of the time.
I also used to play the lotto every week for years. In the past year, I think I've bought a dozen. I haven't gotten one in about 6 months. It really is a waste of money.
