both shadow and eric haven't posted in damn near two months, this sucks.
as for suggestions, here are some easy ones you can do:
expand the width of the text box when you're typing your message, the one you've been using forever is way too small.
i suggested this when i first joined, but the posts per page on this forum is way too high. most other forums do something like 10/15/20.
just a preference, but you can manually create a code for certain things such as youtube videos where you would type something like [youtube] url [/youtube] and it would display a clickable video that would stream it onto the forum page instead of actually having to click the video link.
definitely increase the allowed size of avatars, we're not in the 90's anymore and i'm sure eric can afford the extra bandwidth.
be more active. as i said both eric and shadow haven't even posted anything lately, although i know they check every now and then, but still any sort of updates or anything would be nice. if anything he could just merge this forum with the flopturnriver forum which is a lot more active.

holy shit i just checked flopturnriver.com again and not only does it look 100x nicer than 21ace, but look at the forum stats:
Our users have posted a total of 682086 articles. We have 7880 registered users.
Most users ever online was 1424 on Fri, 28 Mar 2008, 4:29pm.
compared to
Our users have posted a total of 56453 articles
We have 9777 registered users
Most users ever online was 221 on Wed Oct 20, 2004 8:39 am
for some reason we have 2000 more members, but they got 640k more posts and loads of active members.
21ace is erics redheaded stepchild.

well i dunno much about their site but it looked more like a poker forum, compared to a chip trick forum. and we all know that there's like a billion more poker fans than chip trick fans

Do you think we should expand it vertically or horizontally? I don't know how you see it in your browser but for me it doesn't seem that small.

We can change that... But I personally prefer scrolling over jumping to the next page every 10 posts.

Yes, this is like a vicious circle. Eric spends more time there because it is more active and it brings more than 21ace. But 21ace is less active because he doesn't spend time here to improve it. But I also don't think that he would like to give it away.
The problem with me is that I have almost no free time lately so I can't work on 21ace either. I think the only possible solution is to have some people like you who would be able to improve the site and keep it active. If you want to do this let me know and we can talk about it.

the thing is in large threads you can become a little disoriented. 10 posts per page is too small, but 15-20 would be nice.

having 21ace just as a sub-section in the more active site would be a quick fix. maybe even just linking the two and having the forum link redirect it to this site from the flopturnriver main forum index?
the problem is a chip trick forum, time and time again, becomes stagnant if there is no buzz. more people are posting now since the french competition has been announced, but unless something is going on people aren't going to post actively. i could also go crazy in off-topic, but it's always buried in the bottom and threads usually die there fairly quickly.
i mean eric did try to make threads to keep it active, but there's only so much people can talk about his golf swing before the thread dies.

The "post a reply" window is shorter in the sub silver skin. In the others it seems to be ok. But I have forwarded that to Eric with the other "technical" suggestions so he will hopefully fix that.
I personally don't know if it would be possible to join FTR and 21ace but I have asked Eric too.
I think that some major changes could help - remaking the whole structure of the site, switching to the new phpBB forum, changing the graphics etc. I think that if a new member comes here now he must be totally confused. I sometimes have troubles finding some older things too. And if there are no new members coming then the forum is not doing well (talking about the same topic with the same people isn't working well). But there probably isn't anyone who would do the changes...
Maybe we can make a few days off in summer (July/August) and try to do something. We would definitely welcome any help. Especially people who can do graphics and coding.

I'm thinking maybe we should go back to a template that is more like subSilver. Is there anyone that could help us move back to a more standard template?
Merging FTR and 21ace would cause some confustion imo; FTR is about poker and 21ace is about tricks.

what confusion? one site is popular and one has at its best 10 active members including the pool trick forum.

I know I haven't been around for ages but it gives a good prespective.
I wasa council memember during the heyday of 21ace where there were 10+ new posts daily.
For me the forum suffered when we tried to do too much. 21ace used to be THE premier place on the web to find out about chip tricks, it had a bit about XCM and poker but it was targeted.
Then too much came in and the site lost focus. While I understand that Eric Yow's forums are a valuable and in fact probably the most active opart of the forum, it is a far cry from chip tricks and is porbably quite confusing to any new visitors.
My advice would be to specialise again. We still have without doubt the most tallented chip trickers around, so make them the focus of the site.
I feel the eric youw stuff would do just as well on it's own entire forum even if that's held within 21ace.com webspace.
Also the site is in (imo) serious need of a total revamp, it has a very nineties look andconsidering it is a community certainly does not feel very web 2.0
While I realise that it's traffic at the moment probably doesn't warrant this kind of facelift it is a viscious circle. 21ace is avery very content rich which is highyl intimidating to new users, also it has a lot of information people don't want/need/read.
Not sure about a merge with ftr but certainly a move towards that level of site i think is needed to bring the interest back. Decknique went beserk when it launched and i think that was as much to do with the look and feel of the site as it was the content, we have that level of content here, there is a vast archive of great information but it is presented poorly. That's the change i think will make the biggest difference.
