The Charlier Cut Poker Card TrickCheck out these videos where fatty performs the Charlier Cut. His Charlier Cut Tutorial Video shows the flourish in slow motion at the end. Fatty's regular Charlier Cut Video is helpful too. The Carlier Cut or Charlie Cut is a nifty way to cut the cards with one hand. Shadow does it fast and makes it look easy in his video. Fortunately the video has a tutorial section at the end where he does the cut slower so that it can be studied. The cut is described in detail in The Royal Road To Card Magic by Jean Hugard and Frederick Braue. The authors give detailed guidelines on how to do the cut on pages 172 and 173. Here are part of the guidelines. "1. Hold the pack in the left hand at the sides, between the tips of the thumb and the ring and middle fingers, with the tips of the index and little fingers pressing up against the face card. 2. Allow the lower half to fall from the thumb onto the palm of the hand. Press upwards against this packet with the tips of the index and little fingers. 3. Allow the other portion to sink down onto the palm by slightly extending the middle and ring fingers, with the index finger at first supporting it but moving out of the way as the packet nears the palm and the original lower portion folds downwards on top of it. 4. Square the cards by moving the index finger beyond the outer end." [172-173] The book goes on to explain how the Charlier Cut can be used to perform tricks when executed twice in a row. |
