    Twirl Poker Chips Trick

  • Number of Poker Chips: 3
  • The Key: Learn how to separate the middle chip from the two edge chips first. Once the separation is under control the rest of the poker chip trick is easy.
  • Beware: Do not use the pinky on this poker chip trick, it makes things more complicated than they to be.
  • You Know You Have It When: Once the poker chip trick can be done without looking you are on the right track. Doing the poker chip trick with 4 chips instead of 3 is another sign that things are going well.
  • Poker Chips to Use: The twirl poker chip trick can be performed with all the different kinds of poker chips.
  • More Information: Our Twirl Chip Trick page has more details on this poker chip trick including more specifics on the required steps in photos.

  • Shuffle Poker Chips Trick

  • Number of Poker Chips: 2 stacks of at least 5 chips each.
  • The Key: Start out with small stacks on a soft surface like a blanket or a pillow.
  • Beware: As you continue to pracice make sure you pick up the speed or the poker chip trick will not work right.
  • You Know You Have It When: You can take 2 stacks of 8 chips each and get them back to normal after 4 shuffles. In other words, you have a stack of 8 red chips and a stack of 8 white chips. After shuffling them 4 times you can be back where you started if you do the poker chip trick a certain way.
  • Poker Chips to Use: The shuffle poker chip trick works best with thick, heavy poker chips. The thin plastic poker chips do not work well for this poker chip trick.
  • More Information: Our Shuffle Chip Trick page has more information on this poker chip trick. Specifically, it talks about how to take 2 stacks of 8 chips each and get back to normal. It also breaks down the sequence of steps for the poker chip trick in step-by-step photos.
  • Shuffle Poker Chips Trick in Forums:
The Best Way to do Poker Chips Shuffle talks about different methods for this poker chip trick.
Do the poker chips fall over when you do the shuffle trick? Maybe you should read the Help My Chips Fall Over on the Poker Chips Shuffle Trick thread.

  • Front To Back Poker Chips Trick

  • Number of Poker Chips: 3 to 7
  • The Key: Hold all but one of the chips in position with the pinky.
  • Beware: Make sure you don't cheat by using the other hand if the chips get loose. Make sure there is space between the pinky and the ring finger to keep things stable.
  • You Know You Have It When: You can consistently do the poker chip trick multiple times without looking or thinking about it.
  • Poker Chips to Use: The front to back poker chip trick can be performed with all the different kinds of poker chips.
  • More Information: Our Front To Back Chip Trick page has more information on setting up for this poker chip trick. It also has step-by-step photos of the poker chip trick.

  • Knuckle Roll Poker Chips Trick

  • Number of Poker Chips: 1
  • The Key: Hole the chip loosely between the fingers.
  • Beware: Don't cheat by using the thumb after the chip has moved past it.
  • You Know You Have It When: You can easily do the poker chip trick quickly without looking over and over again.
  • Poker Chips to Use: The knuckle roll poker chip trick works best with thick, heavy poker chips. The thin plastic poker chips do not work well for this poker chip trick.
  • More Information: Our Knuckle Roll Chip Trick page has more information on the steps required for this poker chip trick.

  • Evelyn Ng Butterfly Poker Chips Trick

  • Number of Poker Chips: 4
  • The Key: Learn the twirl poker chip trick first. This poker chip trick is one of the hardest so save it for last.
  • Beware: This poker chip trick requires a lot of practice. Don't try to learn it if you get discouraged easily.
  • You Know You Have It When: You've put in the practive time and you can do it smoothly without dropping chips.
  • Poker Chips to Use: The butterfly poker chip trick works best with the thick, heavy chips. I prefer 11.5g or heavier for this poker chip trick. I don't do it with the thin plastic chips, they're not as stable.
  • More Information: Our Evelyn Ng Butterfly Poker Chip Trick page has more information on the steps required for this poker chip trick.

  • Antonio The Magician Poker Chips Roll Trick

  • Number of Poker Chips: 3
  • The Key: Repeat the poker chip trick many times. Separate the chips early.
  • Beware: Make sure there is some separation with the chips before rotating.
  • You Know You Have It When: You can do it comfortably and quickly without drops.
  • Poker Chips to Use: The Antonio Roll poker chip trick works best with thick, heavy poker chips. The thin plastic poker chips can be used but I prefer the heavier chips for this poker chip trick.
  • More Information: Our Antonio The Magician Chip Trick page has more information on the steps required for this poker chip trick.

  • Square Poker Chips Trick

  • Number of Poker Chips: 4
  • The Key: The key to this trick is not to try to apply too much pressure to the chips or you'll start dropping them, they just need to be held loosly.
  • Beware: Watch out for step 5 in PwNeR69's guidelines below.
  • You Know You Have It When: You can do it the way PwNeR69 does in his video in our Poker Chip Trick Forum
  • Poker Chips to Use: Nexgens are used in the video by PwNeR69.
  • More Information: Here are the guidelines PwNeR69 gives in the forum:
    1) Take four chips and hold them as if you were going to do a two chip twirl.
    2) Take your thumb and lift the three chips closest to your thumb so that they are held between your thumb and index fingers.
    3) Drop the remaining chip down between your ring and pinky fingers.
    4) Bring your middle finger down as if you were going to do the butterfly, and get a firm grip on the three chips between your thumb and index fingers.
    5) Use your thumb to do a front to back with the three chips, two chips do the front to back over one chip. (THIS WILL TAKE PRACTICE TO GET DOWN EASILY)
    6) Grab the two chips that just came over the other side of the one chip with your thumb and pull them slightly downwards.
    7) Now move your middle finger, still holding all the chips down to apply pressure on the stranded chip between your ring and pinky.
8.) Roll you middle finger upwards to position pressure on that stranded chip onto your ring and middle fingers.

Your hand should now have one chip between your ring and middle fingers, one chip between your index and middle fingers, and two chips between your thumb and middle fingers.

    9) Move your pinky over towards your thumb to grab one of the two chips held between your thumb and middle fingers --- you could also use your thumb to move them closer to your pinky to make it easier to grab.
    10) Spread them, and there you have the square.

  • Triangle Poker Chips Trick

  • Number of Poker Chips: 3
  • The Key: This trick is somewhat easy if you already know how to do the 3 chip twirl.
  • Beware: Make sure you have full control of the chips at the end. I like to follow it up with a twirl to make sure I have full control.
  • You Know You Have It When: You can do it in a routine with other 3 chip tricks like the twirl poker chips trick and the front to back poker chips trick.
  • Poker Chips to Use: The triangle poker chips trick can be done with all different chips..
  • More Information: Andaval mentions this trick in our Poker Chips Tricks forum. It is also discussed by PwNeR69 and others in the Triangle Poker Chips Trick thread. Here are the guidelines PwNeR69 gives in the forum:
    1) Take 3 chips and hold them in the same grip as you would for the twirl.
    2) Lift the two closer chips to your palm with your index and thumb and drop the remaining chip down to your pinky and ring finger.
    3) Do as if you were going to do a three chip butterfly now, but instead of opening up the chips, take the two chips between your middle and index now (because of the butterfly form) and do a front to back with them.
    4) Grab the chip closest to your palm and finish the butterfly with all the chips circling around your middle finger.

  • Learning Poker Chip Tricks

Once players know how to perform poker chip tricks smoothly they can do them at the poker table. Many players have problems because they try to do the poker chip tricks before they are ready. This can be a disaster if it takes your mind off them game. I practice all poker chip tricks at home before I try to do them while playing. My friend bought be a poker chip set which I use for practice. I advise anyone wanting to learn poker chip tricks to purchase some chips so that the poker chip tricks can be practiced in a relaxing enviroment. I like to do the poker chip tricks while watching TV.

Getting Your Own Poker Chips for Tricks

Having your own poker chips is key to learning these poker chip tricks. Practice makes the impossible poker chip tricks seem easy in time. However, practicing during the games is not adequate. In order to really take the poker chip tricks to the next level it is good to practice often in different settings. The ideal situation is to get your own set of poker chips. However, if you're just going for poker chip tricks, not necessarily home games, then you don't need a full set. All you really need is about 20 poker chips to get started with most of the poker chip tricks. In fact, some of my favorite poker chip tricks only require 3 chips.

There are many different kinds of poker chips out there. I prefere the 11.5 gram chips because the chips in the casinos are generally pretty heavy so you want to practice with the same kind at home. However, when I'm on the move I use some of the cheaper lightweight plastic poker chips. These cheaper plastic poker chips are nice because I don't mind if I drop/lose them here and there so I don't stress out when using them to practice some of the harder/newer poker chip trics.

Obviously buying poker chips in bulk has certain advantages but if you don't host home games then I would start out with a small roll of 20. There are many options for buying poker chips online and we show some of these options on the Poker chips Store page. Don't worry too much about the first purchase. Even if the first 20 poker chips are not to your liking the practice on them will not be wasted. I even use coins sometimes to practice different poker chip tricks.

Different casinos around the world have been using custom chips for years. For example, the Hard Rock Cafe in Las Vegas has chips that have different bands on them. A friend of mine kept a $25 chip from the Hard Rock because he liked the band on it. Other casinos like Hollywood Park in California have their name and logo on the chips. Individuals are getting more and more chip customization options as time goes on. Currently there are many companies on the internet offering monogrammed poker chips. Getting chips with your initials on them is not only good for decoration, it helps keep the game secure(moreso than if you use common poker chips that can be found anywhere). There are also chip variations available without going as far as the monogrammed option. Chips are available with the dice numbers(1 to 6) on the outside as well as with the poker suites on the outside rim of the chips. It is a little bit more enjoyable doing chips that are more flashy than the plain chips that don't have anything special.

Turn Wait Time Into Poker Chip Tricks Time

We all spend much of our time waiting for things. My son even has a book that talks about it. Most mornings I take 4 or 5 poker chips and put them in my pockets before I leave for the day. Here are some situations where poker chip tricks can be practiced.
  • When waiting for the bus why not practice the knuclke roll poker chip trick? It only takes one poker chip to do it.
  • Waiting for a train could be an opportunity to work on the Muscle Pass. The Muscle Pass is another poker chip trick that only requires one poker chip.
  • If you're waiting for the subway you could practice the 2 chip knuckle roll to pass the time.
  • We all wait for meetings from time to time. Why not practice the butterfly poker chip trick while waiting for a meeting. The butterfly poker chip trick requires a lot of practice, it requires 4 poker chips and it isn't easy.
  • Most doctor offices seem to have waits. Why not practice the front to back poker chip trick while waiting your turn?
  • I've practiced different chips while waiting for the dentist. One of my favorites is the 4 chip twirl.
  • If you don't change your oil yourself then chances are you have to wait. This could be a good time to practice the 3 chip reverse twirl.
  • Often times there is a wait for restaurant food. This could be a good time to bust out the 4 chip front to back poker chip trick.

  • Different Weighted Poker Chips For Tricks

There are all kinds of different types of poker chips in the marketplace. They have 5 gram, 8 gram, 9 gram, 11.5 gram, 13 gram and 13.5 gram versions out there. My philosophy has always been that practicing poker chip tricks with any chip is better than not practicing at all. However, if you want to be able to do the poker chips in casinos then it is best to use chips that are at least 11.5 grams in weight. We have reviews on the site of different types of chips. The 11.5g chips are among the most popular. They come in both regular composite and clay composite. The clay composite chips are not as smooth and slippery as the regular composite chips. If you're having trouble with the non-clay composite slips sticking to your fingers then you can put a little bit of water on your hands.

I think it is easier to move from heavy poker chips to light poker chips than to move from light poker chips to heavy poker chips. For this reason I think heavy poker chips are the best to practice with. Some casinos use fairly heavy poker chips while others do not. If you have heavy poker chips at home to practice with then you are in good shape. Again, once I learn a poker chip trick with heavy poker chips I have no problem making the adjustment and doing the same thing with light poker chips. However, there have been times when I learned a trick with light poker chips only to have trouble doing the same thing with heavy poker chips.

    Poker Chips As Gifts

Poker Chips and Poker Chip Sets make nice gifts. We have many links to WeDoItAllVegas where poker chips can be personalized/monogrammed. Whether it is a roll of 50 chips or a full set of 300 to 1000, poker chips are a nice gift for anyone who enjoys watching poker on television. Which Poker Chips make the best gift? Much of it depends on the recipient. I bought my son some cheap plastic chips because he has a tendency to lose them. I would only consider the 11.5g, 13g or 13.5g chips for my friends who are serious poker players. The 11.5g composite chips have some designs which are fairly inexpensive. The dice design chips, suited design chips and deluxe diamond design chips are all in the same price range. In my opinion the best of these budget 11.5g composite poker chips is the dice design. Some people dislike the metallic twinging sound of the 11.5g composite poker chips but the noise does not bother me. For poker chip tricks the weight and surface texture of the chip are more important than the sound of the poker chip. Be sure to visit our Poker Gifts section to read more about poker chip gifts and poker gifts in general.

    Poker Chips Reviews

The Poker Chips Reviews are based on Appearance, Relative Price and Quality. Here are some explanations:
  • Poker Chips Appearance - Do the poker chips have a nice design? Are the graphics clear and concise or are they blurry? Do the poker chips look like they belong in a casino?
  • Poker Chips Relative Price - Are the poker chips reasonably priced? The 13.5 gram clay composite poker chips should be more expensive than the 9 gram non-clay composite poker chips but only to a certain extent. Are the poker chips a good buy compared to other similar poker chips?
  • Poker Chips Quality - In general the heavier poker chips are higher quality but there are other factors. Are the poker chips clay composite or regular composite? Is the exterior good quality or are they just cheap poker chips with heavy metal inserts?

  • One of the nice things about our poker chips reviews is that they are interactive. We review each of the poker chips but other people are also invited to post their thoughts(especially forum members).

We look at poker chips from several of the top poker chips sellers so the reviews are not as biased as those from a single source. In other words, some sites that sell poker chips have their own reviews but they are biased towards their poker chips. In other words the sites that only sell high end poker chips try to convince people that they should purchase the high end poker chips. Sites that only sell the budget poker chips try to convince people that they should not spend too much money so they should purchase their budget poker chips. We realize that for some people the budget poker chips make the most sense but for others the high end Paulson like poker chips make the most sense. Also, we have poker chips reviews with different perspectives. As someone who enjoys poker chips tricks and home games of Texas Holdem, I look for poker chips that are good for both home games and tricks. Some of the people doing the poker chips reviews are using the chips more for games than for tricks. On the other hand some of the folks out there are using the poker chips more for tricks than for games. If you are using the poker chips for games then it probably makes a lot of sense to buy a large set of poker chips. If you are using the poker chips more for tricks then you don't necessarily have to buy a large set, you can buy a roll of 50 or so and see how you like them. Here we look at poker chips from different sites and often times show more than 1 location where the poker chips can be purchased. This allows the customer to compare prices and choose the best deal at the best time.

The 9 Gram Clay Composite Las Vegas Poker Chips have a nice look to them. The design is very detailed and they make a nice addition to any card room. The weight is a little bit too light for me personally but some people like the lighter chips because they are more portable.

There are 3 11.5g composite chips that we've reviewed that are less expensive than the others. The 11.5g Dice Composite Poker Chips are a nice choice if you like craps or other Vegas games related to dice. The design is more colorful that the plain poker chips but it doesn't try to get too fancy. If you enjoy the 4 suits then the 11.5g Suited Composite Poker Chips might be the right choice for you. Each of the 4 suits is displayed on the outer rim of the chip. Finally, if you like to keep things consistent then the 11.5g Deluxe Diamond Composite Poker Chips could be what you need. The design isn't very complicated as the only suit on the edge is the diamond.

There is a fancier group of 11.5g composite poker chips that tends to be a little bit higher in price. The 11.5g Ace King Suited Composite Poker Chips are a nice choice if you enjoy the hand "big slick". This chip has the ace and king cards on the rim and it has the first letter for ace, king, queen and jack carved into the edge. The 11.5g Tri Color Double Dice Composite Poker Chips are a little bit more fancy than the standard dice chips. They are a bit more colorful too. The 11.5 gram Tri Color Suited Composite Poker Chips are among the best looking poker chips we've seen. The different colors really stand out and make this chip look tremendous. The 11.5 gram Holdem Poker Chips are another good choice in the 11.5g weight class. The 11.5 gram Texas Holdem Composite Poker Chips are well made, the words Texas Holdem are actually engraged in the chip. The 11.5 gram High Roller Composite Poker Chips are kind of different, the design is quite colorful.

If 11.5g is not quite heavy enough for you then there are other options. The 13g Casino Clay Composite Poker Chips have a different feel than the regular composites. These clay composites also have a different sound as they are closer to clay than the regular composite chips.

If you want the super heavy chips then the 13.5 gram selections are a nice choice. Be warned, once you feel these heavy chips and start doing poker chip tricks with them you may not want to go back to the lighter alternatives. The 13.5 Gram Clay Composites have a nice feel and sound to them. The Clay Composite helps keep them from being slippery like the regular composites. It also helps mask the clanking sounds when the chips are banged together. The regular composites have more of a high pitched noise that sounds like glass breaking. These Clay Composites mask that noise so that the sound is more dull. The 13.5 Gram Clay Composite Stripe Suited Poker Chips have a simple design. The 13.5 Gram Clay Composite Double Suited Poker Chips have a lot going on in the outer rim of the chip. This is because the border separating the suits is somewhat wide.

Our users talk about many different types of poker chips in the Poker Chip Reviews and Information Forum. The Guide to Buying Poker Chips thread discusses some of the things to take into consideration when purchasing poker chips. I don't necessarily agree with every single point in the thread but some important concepts about poker chips are evaluated. Many of our forum users have more than one set of poker chips but we have a thread dedicated to the discussion of everybody's first set of poker chips. The thread entitled Your first chip set has a lot of information on first-time, non-plastic poker chip sets. One way to decide which kinds of poker chips to purchase is to order poker chip samples. The I just got my chip samples today thread talks about different sample poker chips. Toe Jam talks about different sample poker chips in this thread. He does a good job of showing various sample poker chips in photos. People often wonder what poker chips are used in the World Series of Poker and this is discussed in the What chips are used in wsop 2004 Poker Chips Thread. I talked to Brock and Suzie at WeDoItAllVegas about this. They said the old Binions poker chips were in pretty bad shape, the poker chips were so worn down that they were not all the same thickness. There is a lot of talk about the differences between regular compsite poker chips and clay-like composite poker chips. The clay-like composite poker chips are not as slippery, they have more of a sandpaper feeling. These differences are brought up in the Composite vs Clay Composite Poker Chips thread. Some poker chips are more popular than others. One poker chip that seems to stand out is the Nevada Jacks Poker Chip. This unique poker chip is evaluated in the Nevada Jacks Composite Poker Chips Review thread.

  • Counterfit Chips Trick

Some cheaters try a different type of chip trick - using counterfit poker chips. One way to help prevent this is to use custom chips. That said, even custom chips can be duplicated.

The June 20, 2005 issue of Information Week talks about what casinos are doing:
Take gambling. Some casinos are trying RFID in gaming chips to stop the use of counterfits. Gaming Partners International Corp. has sold more than 3 million RFID gaming chips and hundreds of readers to casinos worldwide, including the Wynn Resort in Las Vegas which opened in April. The Hard Rock Casino in Las Vegas began experimenting with RFID chips at some blackjack tables earlier this year." [21]
