Dutch Boyd and His Poker Chip Tricks in the World Series of Poker 2003The 2003 World Series of Poker on ESPN showed Dutch Boyd doing some impressive poker chip tricks. The ESPN clip of Dutch Boyd doing his poker chip tricks lasts 50 seconds. Below is what Dutch Boyd says/does during the ESPN segment.[does the shuffle poker chip trick] Chip Tricks 101 [does the bounce poker chip trick] when you're playing poker everything that you do at the table is for a reason [does the front to back poker chip trick trick two-handed] chip tricks, they show that you've been playing poker for awhile so you do alot of them here's the first one people learn is the drop down, [does the twirl poker chip trick] ... the chip roll [does the roll poker chip trick] ok the moving down, knuckle to knuckle. [does the kunckle roll poker chip trick] In tournaments though you need respect you need people to lay down hands because you need those pots and if you know more tricks than the other guy he thinks oh, gotta watch out for him. Don't forget to check out our message board thread on Dutch Boyd entitled Dutch Boyd Tricks. In the thread we look at all kinds of tricks by Dutch Boyd. Dutch Boyd even made a post in the thread about a new trick not shown on ESPN. There is a full 50 second video of the tricks performed by Dutch Boyd in the ESPN segment. There are also have smaller videos (13 seconds and less) showing Dutch Boyd doing the poker chip tricks on ESPN. I don't have them posted here on this page because they are owned by ESPN and I don't want to have any copyright problems. However, if you want to see the .mpg files check them out on the Flop Turn River page. I noticed that Dutch Boyd does the twirl, shuffle and knuckle roll tricks almost exactly the way I do them. The front to back is another story. During the segment Dutch Boyd does it very quickly. He uses the index finger to move the front chip to the back of the stack. I can do it this way but the first way I learned it was using the thumb to move the front chip to the back. Dutch Boyd and his brother were both in the 2004 WSOP. It is kind of ironic because in 2003 Dutch Boyd said that no one would remember his name if he didn't make the final table. He just missed the final table(12th place) but everyone remembers him. This is partially because of the 50 second ESPN segment in which he does various poker chip tricks. Even without the poker chip tricks, Dutch Boyd was a little bit more flashy and noticable than some of the other players. There are those who love Dutch Boyd and those who hate him. One thing is for certain, a lot of people remember the name Dutch Boyd from the 2003 WSOP. Dutch Boyd took the poker world by storm finishing the tournament in 12th place in the 2003 WSOP. He used many weapons to finish in the money. One advantage he had was that a lot of the pros did not know him as well as some of the other players so he was unpredictable. Another part of his game that may have helped him advance was his control of the poker chips and the poker chip tricks he did around the other players. Dutch Boyd has a intersing site, rakefree.com where he talks about the impact rakes can have on the low limit online games. Hopefully he will be able to implement his plan and have a poker room where the rakes are limited to a flat fee like $30 per month. In the mean time you might as well get some of your rake back by signing up to get 20% extra money(up to $100) at PartyPoker. Dutch Boyd admits that he raised at times in the World Series of Poker without first looking at his cards because a raise was correct regardless of what he held. Obviously your opponents need to have a certain amount of respect for you in order for this to work. In other words, if you are raising pre-flop with 7,2 offsuit in the hopes that your post-flop bet will get your opponent out(assuming his hand did not improve) then the way other player perceive you is important. It is safe to say that when players saw Dutch Boyd doing poker chip tricks and saw him raise they may have put him on a strong hand like K,K or A,A more times than he actually held those hands. |
